Just wondering how everyone handled the first turkey day since the surgery. I did fine. My mind is playing more tricks on me for christmas since that is the holiday I usually ate the most at. I think it is all mind over matter. Any tips? Anyone have a really hard time?? Suzanne 300/167/150

Glad to hear you did okay Suzanne! I did pretty well too...actually lost weight over this Thanksgiving!! I'm still having problems eating fibrous foods, so I made a faux lowcarb sweet potato casserole (made with pumpkin instead of sweet potatoes) and was able to eat it without getting sick. Last time I ate a real sweet potato I was puking for hours Christmas is a concern for me too but I've decided to bump up my exercise routine and really mind my eating leading up to it so I can indulge a little. I did better than I thought I would. I fixed the traditional dinner for my hubby & son but made a few menu reductions - no corn souffle (I'd eat the entire pan!) and only made 1 apple pie instead of 3 pies (apple, pumpkin, pecan - yes in the old days I made each person's favorite pie!) and plain green beans instead of glazed green beans which has lots of brown sugar. I ate 3 oz. turkey breast, 2T. green beans, 1T. mashed potatoes, 1T. creamed corn, 2T gravy, no bread, and later 1/2 slice apple pie with 2T. Reddi Wip. I know the pie was a splurge, but I've been extra good this week so I could "afford" it and the piece was small to keep the sugar low enough that I wouldn't dump on it. YUMMY! Vickie J. 277/154/142

Vickie, Didn't it feel good to walk away from the Thanksgiving dinner table without feeling so stuffed that you need to take a nap? We ate at my mother's house and after dinner I jumped right up and started the dishes and had energy the rest of the afternoon. BTW, congrats on passing your surgeon's goal. You'll be at 142 before you know it. Let's see a new pic of the new you! Mary Ellen 280/164/160

Mary Ellen, It was GREAT to leave the Turkey Table and not feel like I was going to explode!! I ate 1,030 calories for the day which is alot for me. It is only the 3rd time I've gone over 1,000 calories in a day. I usually eat 750-900 calories a day. But I didn't have to clean up, I always get to go "rest" while my guys do the cleaning up & puting leftovers away. I see my surgeon on Wed. and I can't wait for him to see my weight! When I saw him at my 8 month check-up he said I was already down to what he thought I'd lose in a year's time so I know he'll be happy that I'm below goal. I just hope he doesn't want me to stop losing yet. I really want to get down to lowest weight for my height (142) but I'll be thrilled with anything below 150. I haven't weighed 145-150 since my wedding in 1974!!! At 10 months post-op, life is GREAT!!! I just hope I can keep it up for life! Vickie J. 277/154/142

I did pretty ok with eating and all but I did have like 4 smaller pieces of pumpkin pie and two pecan. I got it out of my system. And of all things my mom sends both home with us! Shes the one who got me to get surgery.... Marti

I did pretty well, wanted to eat more turkey becuase it was so good, but I held off and said no. Now yesterday was a different story, I was hungry all day, I do not know why. I think I made good choices, but ate more volume over the day then is normal for me. Jenn

I did okay, but I told myself that I was going to eat what I wanted on that day, but only that day, and go right back to normal. Well I splurged for two days, and am back on track. I didn't gain or lose. I did lots of walking with shopping and all. And I was disappointed that I couldn't eat more cuz everything tasted sooo good. I just had bites of things, and that was it. I gave myself permission to indulge, and then I couldn't really do it. Hmmmm...

Hi Suzanne, I actually did a whole lot bnetter on food than I expected. Now alcohol.... I was a bit bad on, I had too many glasses of wine (not all at one time, spread throughout the day). I didn't get drunk or anything but when I totaled up the calories.... whoa Momma! LOL! I made sure to use a smaller plate than anyone else and I took a little bit of samples from each dish (about 2 T) and at least 2-3 oz of meat. Then I would make sure to take 3 bites of meat for everyone one of anything else. So I got my protein in but I also had room for a taste of everything else. Then I made sure I got up and immediatly washed my plate so I would not stare at the rest of the food left on my plate and so folks would not dwell on how little I did eat. It seemed to work for me. Where I went really wrong, I did not exercise. Which is rare for me.... I just got so wrapped up in having hubby home that I could not drag myself away from him! LOL! Sad, isn't it?! I used to not be able to wait for him to "get out of my hair" now, I can't get enough of him! LOL! I'm in love all over again, like a little school girl!
