Help - Bread problems!

Help! I'm 9 months out & have noticed that when eating in some restaurants, I've begun to nibble on the bread they bring to the table before the meal. Twice in the past week I've eaten my usual small amount of food, but felt miserable after my meal - felt like I'd swallowed a rock! Then I realized I'd eaten a piece or 2 of bread before the meal. I don't have a problem resisting the bread during my meal & don't drink with or immediately after my meal. So the only change in my eating pattern seems to be the bread. Could that be causing the misery? And how do I keep myself from indulging in that wonderful, hot homemade yeast bread? (I only do this at places with fabulous tasting bread, not the garden variety bread at most restaurants). Vickie J.

Vickie - I so have the same problem! I have always had a fondness for really good bread, but if I indulge in some any more, I feel really bad and most times am sick. If you find a way to avoid that "hot, homemade, yeast bread" please let me know! It is still a huge weakness of mine! Cheri

Thanks for responding. I'll have to visualize being curled up with the heating pad on my tummy next time I reach for the bread basket!! That ought to do it!!! Vickie J.

It mostlikely is the bread making you sick. The best way I have found not to eat it, tell them not to bring it to your table. Just ask the other guest if they can assist you with this, if you explain it is so you can all eat healthy, I bet they will be ok. Jenn

I am with Jen, I'd ask them not to bring it to the table...out of sight out of mind. It would "haunt" me too!

It is easier to do that if it is only my hubby & I, but not so easy to do when we're with friends. I'll just have to ask everyone to keep it away from me! Vickie J.

I ate a slice of whole grain toast this morning with peanut butter because of the good things it offers (protein, fiber, carbs, etc) a little carb daily is necessary..maybe your body just craves it? It's good that you are selective in your bread choices. I get the "rock" feeling after eating any solid food (usually too fast) so I don't know if it is because of the bread or not.

Hi Vickie, I'm a carb addict and need to stay far away from the stuff as I can't say no and never know when to stop. The discomfort your feeling when eating is from the bread, it's swelling in your tummy. I agree with the other girls, tell the waitress not to bring it to your table. Good luck. God bless, Syndi

I eat breads now but I find that I must eat it at the end of my meal and not the begining. So what I do is ask them to bring the bread WITH our meals instead of before it. If we are with friends and looking at getting appetizers, I choose the highest in protein that I can or go with a salad. When the meal comes I break myself off, half of a piece of bread and put it on my plate, then the basket goes AWAY form me! HTH!
