Tail Bone Pain

Since all of the good advice, info and inspiration is here, I have a question. Is anyone else having pain and/or discomfort with their tailbone. (I think that it is because my butt used to sit a little higher.) Anyway, I have started Pilates classes and it is really painful to "roll like a ball". Any suggestions of a really good mat, I bought a more expensive one thinking that it would be better but it is not. Thanks Becki 297/154/130 5'8"

Sorry you're having this, Becki... maybe just take it slow and after you've built the muscle up, it won't be so bad -- that's my hope for all of us with arse pain! I guess you could always change your exercise regimen to find something that doesn't hurt your booty - maybe spinning or running?!? Gosh, I can't wait to be able to run Don't know about any matts, sorry. ((((skinny hugs)))) wendyb

I have pain in my tailbone too. I think alot of my pain has to do with the fact that I dont have alot of cushion back there anymore. I dont suffer from it all the time but sometimes it can be worse than others. I have read this is a pretty common problem. How do you like pilates? I was thinking about buying a home kit to get started with. Suzanne 300/182/150

It was fun, just started at a gym but also ordered the full Windsor Pilates system this weekend but it is not here yet. I am going to have to find a better pad or die of a sore tail bone. It hurts worse this afternoon. Becki

I have the same problem when I try to do leg drops or power 100s. I find if I am my hands under my butt to support my tail bone this helps. Depending on the exercise it may not work. I think our bones have been protected by layers of fat for so many years are now exposed, and are extra sensitive. Just my thought...

Thanks. I'm going to have to try that with my hands for the leg drops and power 100s but then will not get the arm movements in. It won't work "rolling like a ball" though. Have you been doing Pilates for a while, does it get better? Becki

Becki, I'm having the same problem, BIG TIME! I just saw my orthopedic surgeon for back spasms and asked him about the tailbone pain as well. He said it is caused b/c I've lost most of my butt padding and I'm acutally sitting on the tail bone for the first time in many, many years. He suggested I strengthen the glutt muscles with exercises to increase my butt padding. Also said I might want to get a tail bone cushion or "donut" to sit on. They'll take the pressure off the tail bone. I'm goin to see if I can find one to help me out until I can build up the glutts. Good luck! Vickie J.
