HELP!!!! AM I CONSUMING ENOUGH CALORIES???
Hi all of my January friends!!!! I had lap rny on January 10, 2005 and so far have lost 87 pounds. I started on my surgery date at 261 pounds.
I need to lose approximately 52-54 more pounds, hopefully by my one year anniversary.
Would someone please tell me how many calories I should be consuming at almost 8 months post op? I'm currently at 600-700 calories per day whi*****ludes my 2 protein drinks from which I get 80 grams of protein per day. I eat only 2 meals, no snacks (my surgeon does not allow them).
I always eat 4 oz. of protein and some vegetables. Also, sometimes I will have a piece of string cheese. I also drink 120-140 oz. of water. Should I be getting in more calories? My weight loss seems to have slowed down.
I know I am still losing inches, but the scale just won't move. I have been so careful with my calorie intake and am wondering if I should up the number. I would appreciate any advice you have to offer. I also exercise on a regular basis.
Everyone have a wonderful week!!!!!
Aloha, Pat

Pat, WOW, I could not survive on 600-700 calories. I eat 1000-1200 calories a day and that includes 2 protein drinks each with 165 calories. We only absorb 30 grams of protein at once. I drink 100 ounces or more of water, crystal lite etc each day and consume 75-90 grams of protein. I stay below 40 carbs. I eat 3 meals and 2 snacks every day. I have lost 108 lbs since my surgery, Jan 18. And still steadily lose about 10 pounds per month. Started out at 312 and now weigh 204.

That is so weird to me that your dr does not allow snacks. I was told by my dr and my dietician that I need to consume 6 small meals a day. This helps your metabolism speed up and make you lose weight better. I would maybe call a dietician to see what they say. I know my Drs office had one on staff. Maybe call them to see they will know exactly what to do.

Congratulations on your weight loss success thus far!!!! I was released from the hospital on 2/3 weighing in at 306 (+9 lbs from surgery day of 1/11) - to date, I have lost 95 lbs, eating an average of 800 cal/day, 3 meals and 2 snacks/day, 60-70 gms protein, less than 50 carbs. I am a bum when it comes to exercise, though, and know without a doubt that I would lose more with that adjunct. At six months, my doc's office has a goal of 1,000-1,200 cal/day - I can't get to that number without ice cream or a breve' SF van latte from starbucks I, too, am a shortie, 5'1" on a good day, and will probably lose my inch at goal - oh, well... isn't that why they make platforms and stilettos?!?
You're doing GREAT -- keep up the good work!

I just had my check-up with my surgeon yesterday, and I specifically asked him about calories because I have been having a problem with low blood sugar. He said that, by now, I should be having 1100-1200 calories a day. I was relieved because that's exactly what I'm eating. I'm such a slow loser that I thought I was eating too much, but apparently not. I'm down 77 pounds since January 31. He seems to think that's a good loss. I don't mind that it's slow--I just want a guarantee that it will continue!
