I read the role call of weight loss and was totally bummed out. I have only lost 65 lbs and I am down five sizes in my clothes. What has everyone else been doing that I am not doing. I started at 255 and now down to 190. Please tell me what to do? Signed down in the dumps, someone pick me up, i am a little lighter than before.....

You are not alone. I lurk a lot on this site but don't post often because I feel bad that I have not lost as much. My surgery was 1/14/05 and I have only lost 60 lbs! So you are ahead of me. I do know why tho, no exercise is my biggest reason. I pretty much stay at 1000 calories daily but don't drink near enough fluid is another. But I am still happy to have lost that much, going from 262 to 202 at age 58. Let's both just keep up the good work. Lynne

Hi Stacy I've had a stricture that I have been dealing with. That translates into a lot of vomiting. However, since my last endoscopy with dilation on 7/29, I am keeping food down and my calorie intake is up to 800. I also exercise at the gym at least 3 times per week. I try to go swimming twice a week. I haven't been as faithful with the swimming though. I hve had a significant weight loss, but I have been working at it. My biggest problem has been fluid intake. However, since 7/29 that has increased greatly as I am not nauseated any more. I record everything I eat, drink, do in fit day. My weight loss has slowed this month, but I am still losing. You are doing really well. Keep up the good work! I think the key is just staying with it. Everyone loses weight at a different rate. Dianne

Stacy, don't be bummed out, your doing great! Remeber it's not a contest. I started out at almost 100lbs more than you. I have noticed that the more you need to lose, sometimes the faster it comes off in the beginning. I am ashamed to say that i don't get much exercise, or drink nearly enough water, but i try every day. Please don't get discouraged. When was the last time you could say that you were down 5 sizes in your clothes? I started out in a size 34W jeans. I am just now after losing 113lbs in a size 22W. Lots of people start out at a 22W. I want to end up in a size 14/16. and most people are in alot smaller sizes. Just keep doin what your doing. I'm proud of you!!! Hugs to you. 346/233/170

exercise, water & protein baby... If you are really concerned about your weightloss why not make a follow up with your surgeon or nutritionist? Perhaps they can look at your food and exercise log and see something that you might be missing. Or try posting here what you are doing for exercise, food, and liquids... maybe one of us can offer up some advice. Just remember that we all gained and lose weight at different rates hun. Cheer up, you are doing great to be able to say that you are under 200 and have lost that many sizes! Hi Stacy, Your doing great. Try to adjust what your eating. If you take in too many carbs or too much sodium and not enough water, this will stall weight loss. I agree with Jamie, give your food journal to your dietician. God bless, Good luck, Syndi

I am not sure how tall you are, but I was looking at the BMI calulator and planner on the main page and I just used 5' 5" as a sample height. According to your current weight of 190 pounds at 7 months after surgery, you are right on track for losing 80% of your excess weight. The surgeons generally say 65% minimum, and you are on track to lose 80%! You may end up losing even more than 80%, but you are doing great right now. You started at a lower weight than some people, so you may not lose as many pounds as they do, but the end result will be the same. At the end of the weight loss period, you will look just as good and be just as healthy as those that are losing more or losing quicker, as long as you stick to the doctor's plan. In fact, I have read quite a bit that the ones that lose the weight really really fast and don't get enough calories in during the first year, have a tendency to gain back their weight more than those who lose more slowly (or more normally). What did your doctor say about your weight loss? He/she is usually the best indicator of how you are doing. Please try not to compare yourself to some of the others that are exceptionally successful at this point. It really is not the norm. (I am only mentioning this because I am very guilty of comparing myself to others and it can be very painful). Take care. SueZ
