I ROADMARCHED TODAY!!!
I road-marched this morning!!! For those who do not know, my hubby is an instructor at one of the Army's elite Selection & Training schools. He knew that I wanted to get back into hiking (the army calls it road marching) so he asked me if I wanted to try it this week when they have the student's do their first one. I told him yes like an idiot and at 5:30 am this morning I was up and dressed with my black boots on! Now this route is no joke, for their first roadmarch they do a "measly" 4 mile route; what kicks their butts is that it is up and down some really big hills. (Trust me those, sucked! And rule number 1 when road marching, run up and down hills, march the rest.) They have 1 hour to complete the roadmarch or they fail. When Jim and I started out we were the last ones off the start/finish line and we walked with the "pace guy" but I told myself that I could do better than a 15 min mile pace so I just started booking it. The pace guy (another instructor) teased my hubby and told him that he should probably catch up to me or he'd never hear the end of it from the students. So he had to run to catch me. LOL! Together we marched and he helped to motivate me by giving me the mile marks and the times at each mark. I ended up finishing in the "middle of the pack", probably only 25 people ahead of me even though there is 60+ students this time around. I finished in 54:15 and I ran the last few yards as hard as I could with blisters on both feet (totally forgot to put on moleskin before I marched...yeah I'm an idiot). So needless to say I feel like I am on a totaly high! And everyone who finished after me is getting their butts chewed for letting a "wife" beat them as one of the instructors shouted! LOL! And those who did not make the 60 min mark are really gonna get it. One of the instructors already started wailing into the students with.... YOU ARE ON ACTIVE DUTY, "MAMMA DOC" IS A CIVILIAN, WHY DID SHE COME IN 10 MINUTES AHEAD OF YOU? One student had enough balls to say something along the lines of "I would have traded rucks with her", I just carried a camelback, no weight for the first time around. So that guy got "dropped and smoked" with pushups while wearing his ruck. Basically, the instructors told him that since I had major surgery 6 months ago, they have NO EXCUSE to have finished behind me! OMG, I think this class hates me now! LOL! Just wait until the 6 miler in a few weeks! I am doing that one too! Hehehehe....
I put a picture of me on my picturetrail account... just go to picturetrail.com/soarwife and the password for my WLS pix is skinnygirl

And you know what really made me feel good is those BDUs are medium longs (hubby's old pants) and they are sooo huge on me! LOL! I had to roll the waistband and wear a belt really tight to keep them from falling off me! LOL!
So this weekend I am off to the local flea markets to try and find me two pair of small BDU bottoms and one top for me to use for road marching and paintball! LOL!
I am so excited and committed about this whole roadmarching thing. I know a lot of folks will think I am crazy but if I can road march with the sudents in the back 40 up and down all these darn hills (and build myself up to a decent amount of weight in my rucksack) then maybe next year I can actually sign myself up for one of those backpacking trips! I really want to go on one of those backpacking photography types of trips. Something I have NEVER done in my life! (If you don't count Army survival training...LOL!)
Thanks for the encouragment!

No way... I thought my days in the military were long gone and that I had no chance of getting into law enforcement even though that is what my degree is in! I am so happy and hopeful these days! Next step---rappeling and canoeing... both of which I have not done since 1995!

Yeah, I have to keep changing things up or I get bored and find myself finding other things "more important" to do. I am so glad that hubby is this supportive though.
