what kind of exercise......
Stacy
I leave my house. I have found that I just can't get through an exercise routine at home. There is always some kind of an imprtant matter that must be taken care of immediately, such as my kitty needing to be petted. Well, you got me! Any excuse will do. However, since I am trying to firm up some Southern elements, I have been trying to do pilates at least once a week. Again, no real measure of success. I bought a tape and well, I might get through 20 minutes every other week. Note week, not day. I do better with going to the gym or going to the community pool. But that's me.
Good luck. I would love to see some creative ideas out there.

Hi Stacy,
I find I rarely want to exercise but I force myself and I'm always glad I did afterwards. I work shift work and I joined a gym. I have made a committment to take advantage of this opportunity. I find I get my heart rate up the best on an arc trainer & there is low impact on the joints. I also so weight training but have slacked off on that lately. When I am on midnite shift, I am also able to go to the water aerobics class. I am off ot the gym now, at 5 am lol. Never thought I would get up early for that!! If nothing else, walking is great. Just get up & get moving.

I work and have two very busy kids so a gym is out of the question. I use Leslie Sansone's "Walk Away the Pounds". They are great and the time flies while you are doing it. It is a set, there is a 1 mile, a 2 mile and a 3 mile workout, so you can start slow and work up. Also on a busy day you can do the shorter 1 or 2 mile instead of the 3. I really try to do the 2 mile in the morning and before bed, it is 1/2 hour long and that seems to fit my schedule best most of the time. And make sure you get her weights, they are balls and they just sort of sit in your hands really comforatably. I got the 2 DVD set at Wal-Mart, but the friend that recommended them got them thru QVC and she has VHS. I would highly recommend them. Good luck!
Stacy, I am having the same dilemna. I have some really good work out tapes, but the problem is lack of tv to do them and still keep the kiddies occupied. I really need to start focusing on exercise and just don't know how to get it in. My husband and I are still bickering about whether to get an elliptical or treadmill. I want the elliptical, he thinks I should get the treadmill because it folds up when not in use.
I hope to work this out soon. Good luck with your exercises whatever you choose to do.

Hi Stacy- I have a few suggestions for you...
1. Do you have a pet to walk at night when it is cooler outside? Or could you borrow a neighbor's dog? When you have someone (human or animal) to walk with it makes it feel safer not to mention makes the time fly!
2. Do you have a Playstation 2, Xbox or a computer at home you can invest in a really great personal trainer software! It is called Yourself fitness! It is really great, easy to use, customizable and worth the $30. Here is the info on it: "Product Overview- The focus of responDESIGN when creating Yourself!Fitness was to bring a new concept of "Fitness Gaming" to Xbox owners through a system of fitness evaluation tools, customizable exercise routines, meal planning, and even rewards to help individuals follow a healthy lifestyle. Yes, there have been a few exercise-type videogames in the past, but most have been rather limited in their scope resulting in repetitive exercises and an overall boring time for the gamer. Yourself!Fitness is different from the gimmicky fitness products of the past in that the program is fully customizable and no workout will ever be the same.
Here is a glance at the primary features found in Yourself!Fitness:
Personalized training programs & dynamic routines
Over 500 exercises - including yoga, pilates, strength-training, flexibility, and weight-loss routines
Exercise equipment integration
Customized meal planning with over 4500 recipes
6 unique workout environments
Maya, Your Virtual Trainer
To help direct you through Yourself!Fitness, the product uses a "virtual personal trainer" known as Maya. The modeling of Maya is actually very detailed and lifelike which helps when following the various exercises. After all, most people might have a problem in sticking with a product where the trainer looks like a bunch of polygons. This is where the Xbox's graphical capabilities definitely help out. Maya is very believable and smooth in her exercises with various outfits showing off some nice texture work with clothing folds and excellent shadowing.
Maya is rather *****y and is fairly good at keeping you motivated. She'll periodically ask questions related to how you are feeling to help the program customize the exercise routines going forward. For example, you may be feeling tired on a particular day and so Maya will be turn on her motivational speak and alter the exercises a bit. There are a few times when Maya's dialogue doesn't match a particular situation, but the repetitiveness is kept to a minimum. There's no doubt that the more you use Yourself!Fitness there is a better chance of noticing repetitive lines, but still it is far more varied than say a standard workout DVD or TV show."
3. How about some great videos like the various series by Gaiam, right now their website has many of their VHS collections on CLEARENCE!!! I am talking DIRT CHEAP!!! http://www.gaiam.com/retail/category.asp?catalog_name=gai&category_name=l3_VideosFitnessOutlet

Hi Stacy! I know exactly what you mean about leaving the house at night!
I have been using the treadmill since the the third week after my lap rny on January 10, 2005.
I am 5 months post op now and have lost 70 pounds. My daily routine is
60+ minutes on the treadmill at 2 miles an hour, and at a 3% incline.
The treadmill was a little pricey, but I feel that it was worth every single penny, just to have it there right in my house!
Hope this helps!
