Please don't get depressed. My surgery was on 01/20/05 and I'm losing slowly tool I think that we are on another plateau. Believe me we are going to start losing again. I have friends who have been through what we are going through and they tell me that this is normal. Just keep doing what you are doing and the weight will come off. Lorna

I'm not sure, but you may be experiencing "starvation". If you eat too little the body stops losing to protect itself and goes into starvation mode. It shuts down non-essential functions to preserve the energy levels needed to survive. Later, you lose hair, finger nails, nasty stuff,... Increase your protein drinks from one or two a day, to double that amount and then wait two weeks. You won't gain, but you should lose. I had surgery on my nose and didn't work out for two weeks after I was used to going 5 days a week. I just sat at home playing computer, reading, and drinking protein lemonades. Guess what? I lost ten lbs.! Go figure! My nutritionist said "that happens a lot." Hey, I think i will sit home and drink protein shakes, never exercise and eat COOKIES!!!!Maybe I will lose even FASTER!!! LOL Good Luck, Girl!

I totally understand how you feel. I'm losing slowly too. It is frustrating for sure. I lose in spurts. A few lbs. then nothing, then a few lbs. I figure it's a way of life and it will come off eventually. Hang in there, our time will come.

Welcome to the slow losers club. My surgery was Jan 3rd and I've lost 53lbs. I've been doing everything right but the pounds are coming off very slowly. But they are coming off and I look and feel 1000 times better. I know it is hard. They fussed at me during my last doctor's visit. The only things I can suggest is to be sure you are eating enough and to vary your exercise. Vary the duration and intensity. That helps fool your body and it doesn't become used to the same activity. Kathy 250/197/160

I understand your feelings. I am 5mo out a little over actualy and have lost 52lbs. It does make a difference being lightweights. I did the same thing you did I lost the first two weeks then another 6lbs after that and then nothing for almost two months! So at 6 weeks out I quit then started loisng again about 4 or 5lbs a month until last month and at 4 months out I had started to pick up like 13.6lbs that month and then this last weigh in for my 5 month check up I lost 10.6lbs. I think my body was hanging on for some reason cause now its just falling off and I'm not doing much different other than I drink water like crazy and I didn't before I drank artificialy sweetend things. Don't give up look at my profile I was the same way hang in there! Feel free to talk to me anytime! Marti-52lbs

Emi: I completely understand where you are coming from. We have expectations about what this surgery will do for us, and if it doesn't meet our expectations, we can become really depressed. I was falling into that trap too, until I read Dame Tooter's profile. She lost pretty slowly in the beginning, but now she has a total loss of over 200 lbs! She also lost weight after the so called "window of opportunity". That gave me a lot of encouragement. And now I am satisfied with losing slowly, as long as I continue to lose and get to 150/160 lbs. I also realized that the stress of not losing quick enough was causing me not to lose. I get on the scale only once a week now, and I don't sweat the number. If I find myself panicking, then I will restrict my scale use to every 2 weeks or so. Please keep up your spirits. Don't allow the scale to take away your joy over the amount that you have lost! You will lose your weight. Try to enjoy the journey as you get to goal. You are in my prayers. (((((((HUGS)))))) Ms. Sassy

Emi, Don't feel alone or a failure. I am losing slowly too, and feel like I'm doing all the right things. I have not lost any weight for 3 weeks, even though I've been more active than I had been for over 3 years. I also have a good friend who is experiencing the same thing. We both worry we are "missing our window of oppertunity" but at the same time, we're feeling so much better physically with the weight we have lost. I have read some of the other posts, and I think I'll increase my protein some, see if that shakes some "fat" loose! Hang in there, Dianne
