How much have you lost?
Hi. I'm wondering what the average weight loss is at this point in our journey. I started out at 240 and have lost 61lbs. After reading some of your posts, it seems many of you have lost far more than I have.
I also think I can eat more than many of you after reading what you all have written.
I know I need to do more cardio exersize and to be a bit more careful of what I put into my mouth. I don't seem to dump as easily as most and kind of wish I did.
This will help me be more realistic about where I am and what I need to do to get where I want to be.
Thanks for any input. Rhonda
Hi Rhonda,
I've lost 61 pounds since surgery and a total of 86 pounds since starting my weight loss journey. It's hard not to compare ourselves to others but there are so many factors that determine our weight loss (starting weight, height, age, amount of exercise, etc). You sound like you're doing a great job...keep it up.
There is postop weight loss predictor on the OH site that I find very helpful. You enter your starting weight and height and the percentage of excess weight you'd like to lose (ie. 85%, 90% 100%). It will then calculate for you the projected amount of weight you'll lose with bariatric surgery and shows a graph of how much you can realistically expect to lose each month for up to 18 months post surgery. I found it very reassuring that I was not a slow loser after all and that I was right on target for my starting weight and height. You can access the tool at www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/postopplanner.phtml
Try it out...hope it helps!

Thank you for the info on that calculator site. That really does put it into perspective and makes me feel a lot better.
Can you tell me what the 280/255/194/160 under your name means? I assume it has to do with your weight. Does that mean you are down to 160? WOW! That is awesome!! Congrats!
Thanks again, Rhonda
Hi Rhonda! You are doing just great! I sometimes feel like I should be losing more weight. But my doctor has his patients on a very strict diet and exercise program which I am following. I had lap rny on January 10, 2005 and have lost 66 pounds so far.
Here's my diet for an average day:
Breakfast - none
Lunch - 3-4 oz. of chicken breast, or fish, sometimes shrimp or scallops
a handful of baby greens or brocolli with some balsamic vinegar
virgin olive oil dressing.
Dinner - The same
We are not allowed any snacks between our meals.
I drink 2 protein shakes everyday which totals 70 grams of protein.
I drink approx. 130-140 oz. of water (crystal light, sugar free tang)
(this sounds like a lot, but my doctor said I'm doing fine)
I exercise on my treadmill 5-6 days a week for 50-60 min. a day.
We're all different, I don't know what you started out at or your height
but I'm 5 feet tall and started at 261 pounds. My goal is 115 pounds which seems like a long way off, but my doctor told me last month when I saw him that I should reach my goal by January, 2006.
Aloha, Pat

I had my surgery on 1-4-05 and have lost a total of 120lbs so far. I started at 428 when I saw the surgeon. I know mine is more than most of you all, but I have more to loose. I try not to compare myself to to others. I feel as long as I'm losing and not gaining I'm happy. When I started this WLS I set a goal of 20lbs a month. Figuring I would be at 100lbs lost at 5 months. Well I passed that at month 4. So I'm a head of my goal and still loosing. I go to water arobices 3 times a week and love it. It's less stress on your joints and my teacher is very supportive. I try to walk when I can, but my main exercise is at the pool. Stay positive and keep up the good work!
