still having trouble with portions and nausea

First time to post. I have lost 77# since Jan. But my appitite is not good and sometimes the thought of food makes me nauseous. My blood work has been good except for the bilirubin (a little high) G.B.sludge. Salads and fruits are the only things that seem to satisfy me. I can drink milk and eat cottage cheese. I am not getting enough protine. I seem to be grazing instead of eating my 3 meals and 3 snacks a day. I can't seem to get enough watermelon. I take my vitamins and calcium. What protine drink is good that isn't to sweet? How can I stop my mouth from being hungry when my body isn't?

Thanks kate for the input, I think maybe you are right. It has been hard to digest solid food and the fruit and vegs. have been my main stay. I will try the higher protine foods. I think I will have my iron checked again, the salt craving is bad. My protein and water intake are below what I should be taking. Carol

Carolyn - First, congratulations on your 77#! Awesome! I too, have had problems with getting just protein down without feeling sick, and crave salads and fruit. However, I can not take much of them either. I have to force myself to eat protein first, followed by a little bite of salad or fruit. I have started bringing to work some string cheese which satisfies me and the protein need. In talking to my surgeon, he said if there is still difficulty in getting enough protein down, a shake is ok, but to not use it as one of your main meals, maybe as a snack. I found one at Vitamin Cottage that is really pretty good, it is Nature's Plus, Spiru-Tein (Black Cherry is my favorite). They have lots of different flavors and they are not too sweet. There are also Isopure drinks that count as liquids as well as being high in protein which you can get at GNC. Over ice, they are pretty good. The most recent thing that I have found to take the "urge" of having something to eat or at least chew on is a combination of dried cranberries and almonds. It gives me satisfaction without problem or guilt. I do have to be careful of what type of cranberries I use, since some of them are packed with sugar. Good luck to you. I know where you are coming from! Cheri

Cheri, Thanks, I am off to the health food store. I also like your idea about the cranberrys and almonds. The urge to have something to chew on is overwhelming. I also have no one else to cook for so I don't feel like cooking. But I think that will be my best chance. Carol

Carol - I forgot to ask you if you have tried sugar free popsicles yet? They really help my sweet craving days without any guilt, and they go toward the daily intake of liquids too! Cheri

Thanks again Cheri, I forgot about the popcicles. Now that it is getting so warm out I think they will be a great help. I have also found a support group in my area and will be going tomorrow night. It sure is a lot better than going all the way down th Scottsdale. Now that I have been really watching what I eat and making sure the portions a the right size I am feeling better. I havent notice the constant nausea, I have also increased my exercise. Thanks again, Carol
