I want to ask at 4 months how much weight have you lost? I have not had time to exercise for the last month because I was going to school at night and working during the day so I want to know if I am far behind the norm. I have lost about 67 pounds so far.

Hi Elena... At four months I had lost around 60 lbs... I work 50+ hours per week and go to night school 3 nights/wee****il 10pm... I get up for work at 4:30am and on Mondays and Fridays have to leave by 5am. I do the treadmill on Tuesday mornings and Thursday mornings for sure at 4:30... and try to get there on Wednesdays also.... Then on the weekends I don't necessarily do the treadmill but have at least a couple of hours each day with yard work, gardening, etc. I'm lucky in the fact that I'm going to Massage Therapy school and have 3 hours/week of hands on working lab this term... so I burn a lot of calories at that too. However, I don't exercise enough, but for right now its all that I can possibly squeeze into the schedule... I don't function very well on less than 8 hours of sleep and only get about 6 hours for those three nights a week.... sleep is one of the most important parts of a wellness program. I guess what I'm trying to say is do what you can... Don't put your wellness program in jeopardy by not taking care of your entire body... you know your limitations and what works best for yourself. Work things in as you can... maybe parking further from the office or taking the stairs, etc.... Its very important for us to develop good habits during this first year and learning to move again is one of those habits. Hope this helps a little..... Hang in there and keep up the good work! Since surgery I have lost 74 lbs. but 90 lbs. since I started seeing the surgeon. I do exercise some but not as much as I should. Since I have started exercising, I am not seeing much movement on the scale but seeing the difference in inches and my clothes. So it looks like you are on track. Keep up the good work!

Hi Elena. I am 4 1/2 months out and I have lost 64 lbs. I have not measured myself as I was too afraid to know the numbers pre-op. I don't exercise the way I should but I try to walk 2 miles 3 times a week at least. Where I live we do not have sidewalks and it is not a good idea to walk along the road after dark so my exercise has been suffering. I am hopefully going this weekend to get some kind of exercise equipment so I can work out after dark. I don't think there is a norm to weight loss. Your body will lose as it needs to. I think 67 lbs is a wonderful loss for 4 months post op. Kim 286/222/150ish?

Elena: I have lost about 55 lbs. I had been exercising at least 3X a week, but last week, I didn't exercise any. I did do a lot of clothes shopping, but did not get to the gym at all last week. I try to use the elliptical machine 2X a week for 20 mins and walk 2X a week for 20-30 mins. On the days that I walk, then I do a little weight lifting. I am really just learning how to make exercise a priority.....

I'm exercising and am down only 49 pounds. But I'm older then most people having the surgery. Sounds to me like you are doing great! Karen

My schedule is just plain crazy but I force myself to find time or find alternatives in order to get in my exercising. Those who know me, know that when my sister was visiting I slacked off on exercising, getting in my water and taking my vitamins. I PAID FOR IT, I GAINED 4 pounds and I felt like a slug! It has taken me a week and a half of hard work to loose it again. Lesson learned. I must never slack off... I made this leap and I have to stick to the reults. KWIM? If I have the time I hit the pool for two hours (1 hour of water arobics, 1 hour of swimming), or I hit the gym (cardio and weights) for an hour, or I hit the dojo (1 hour of TaeKwonDo)... if I can't fit in any of that b/c of scheduling conflicts... I will walk at night, go dancing with friends, take the stairs, park far away from doors, or find some other way to burn a bunch of calories (hubby loves my alternatives) If you have a bit of space in your house and you have a puter or a play station I suggest investing in "Yourself Fitness" (it is a video game software). It is about $20 for the playstation or $30 for the PC. This thing rocks, it is your own personal trainer that YOU choose how lung you exercise for. You answer tons of questions and the trainer designs a workout routine for you! It is really kewl!
