I've been reading some of the posts and everyone seems to have lost 90 or more pounds. I've lost 52. I started out at 268 on Jan. 5th. Am I just slow? My doc told me to walk 2 miles a day after surgery. I could not do it. Walking hurt! Is everyone else exercising? I joined Curves a month ago. I can't do all the exercises, but they showed me how to adapt. I have lost some inches and I really like going.... LOL really! I like the feeling I get. Sorry this seems so disjointed. Judy

Kate, Your e-mail was a reminder not to be so hard on myself. I know that the surgery is not a magic spell. I won't be thin over night. After I wrote I got out a before pix. Big difference. Thanks! Judy

Hi Judy: You are perfectly normal. 52 lbs is a lot of weight. Just keep following your doctor's recommendations and you'll get there. BTW, I started at 274, had WLS on 1/25 and have lost 54 lbs and lots and lots of inches everywhere. Keep up the good work.

Judy, The other day at the gym, I overheard two women talking about their weight loss. One was really crowing because she had lost 15 lbs. in 6 months! The other was depressed because she had gained 4 lbs. Somehow, I entered into the conversation with them (probably about the personal trainer we all use). One thing led to another, and they asked me about my goals. I lamented the fact that I still had "bat wings" under my arms, and my belly was hanging like a flat tire. Woman "A" said " Oh, you need to do more of this exercise." I said "Well, that still hurts to do. Maybe next month; I'll ask my surgeon." She said "Oh? Did you have surgery?" I thought "Uh, oh,.....the only person in here who doesn't know?" EVERYONE in here knows about my surgery, it seems. So I said " Um, yeah.....I had a WLS." Both women got VERY interested suddenly! Woman B said " When did you have it?" I said "January 19". They both stopped exercising. Woman A said " Was it painful?" Oh, Gee no just peachy!!! I thought. "Well,...uh...yeah...for a while." Woman B then said "So how much have you lost?" " 60 lbs." I answered. TOTAL SILENCE!!! They both started exercising again without a word! JEALOUS!!!!!!!!! Keep it in perspective, girl. You have lost 52 FRIGGIN POUNDS OF FAT!!! Go pick up a three year old kid and compare!! You are amazing! In only 4 months!!!! How long did it take to put it on in the first place? If walking hurts, try water exercises. Just get in a pool and move around for an hour. It's great. I wish I could exercise right now, but I just had nasal surgery and I have to wait at least a week!!!! I feel cheated!! Curves is great; I still can't do all the exercises in my pilates class. But, I do what I can. You are doing fine, girl.

I can understand how you feel seeing so many losing more than you. I have lost 50 pounds since Jan 5 (had surgery Jan 20). No matter what I do, I can only lose 1-2 pounds a week now but at that rate I will be at my goal in 6-8 months. That's more then I ever could before WLS. I don't have Curves close to where I live so I walk 1-2 miles a day at least 5-6 times a week. I have even split it up to where I walk 1 mile in the morning and 1 mile in the evening (it only takes about 20 minutes for me to walk a mile). I hope this winter to get some excerise machine but will wait and see. Anyway, try and be happy with the way you are losing. It will come off. Karen

HI Judy, I've lost 65lbs since 1/18/05 and am proud of it. I know that I would not have been able to have done this on my own as I have tried every diet out there! I have always been a slow looser, just because I've had surgery doesn't mean that my metabolism has changed. I will continue to trudge along at this pace and if it takes me forever to loose, it sure beats gaining. You are considerably lighter than those who have lost the 90lbs, be grateful for that. Try reducing your consumption of carbs and increase the protein bu****ch the calories. Good luck, Syndi

Dear Judy, I'm right there with you. I've lost 55 post surgery. The going is slow. And NO, I cannot walk 2 miles a day. I have worked my way up to .8 miles a day, and that has taken 4 months. I'm sure you're doing what you should, as I am, so that is all we can expect out of ourselves. I hope to be up to 2 miles in another 4 months. It's getting easier! Hang in there. I have good days and bad days, but looking back before January, there were lots and lots more bad days then there are now. Dianne

Hello Ladies, I am 60 pounds down. I work out with a personal trainer and I am a slow loser. It does bother me however I see it this way: 1.) I can shop in "normal" sizes and not have to make a b-line to the plus section (all old lady styles) 2.) I can give clothes away because they are too big 3.) I like exercising! 4.) I AM LOSING!!! We all have to remember this: We have made the choice to lose weight & be healthy and we are doing it!
