OT: Lump in breast?
Have you ever found a lump in your breast? If so what did your doctor say/do? I found one a few days ago and have been freaking out all week. My famliy doctor is in another town so my surgeon sqeezed me in. When he did the exam he did feel the hardness that I was talking about and came across another place like it in my other breast. But he wasn't concerned about it because of my age (22 years). He didn't say that it couldn't happen just that it was very unlikely and that some hardning of the breast tissue happens over time. He said 85% of the biopsies that they do are negative so he waned to just check it again at my next appointment (in October). But I don't feel better about it. I am still freaked out. I think I am going to get a second opinion. What do you think?
I found a lump in my late 20's. The doctor said it was probably fibrocystic material because women who are large busted have a lot of that material in their breast. We did a mammogram & everything was fine. I would get a 2nd opinion but I'd make sure we at least did a mammogram to check it out.

Several years ago, I found a lump in my left breast. I had it removed and it was a benign cyst. About a year later I found a similar size and feel lump in my right breast. I have had nothing done with it. That was 16 years ago. I learned that in my family, if we didn't have lumps, we wouldn't have breasts. (I am not making light of your situation). Do get a second opinion. If you are concerned, have it removed. It was the only way that I could calm down and get some peace of mind after the first lump that I found.

Jenny, In 1998 I found a lump in my breast. I called my doctor and they took me in. The doctor didn't seem at all worried but I was. He told me to come back in 3 months. I was really worried so I bugged them about it. They had me go for several mamograms and ultrasounds. They told me that it was most likely benign but they couldn't tell for sure. I was told I had a choice, either live with it and have them watch it or have it taken out. I chose to have it taken out because I know that I would have worried about it all the time. This was in 1999 and I was 28 years old. It was an outpatient thing and it wasn't so bad at all. They found out that it was benign.
I was young as they put it but I did what was right for me. You just need to do what is right with you and what you will be most comfortable with.
Take care,
Becky P.
Hi Jenny,
I was only 15 when I discoved a lump in my breast. My doctor tried to 'drain' it with a syringe but it was too solid. So I had it surgically removed. It turned out to be a cyst, but the doctor was concerned enough to remove it.
Just this week one of our Aussie Icons, Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer, she is only 37 years old. She will be having surgery next week. Fortunately for her, the cancer has not spread to any other part of her body, and is therefore curable.
It just isn't worth taking chances with these things, could be nothing, could be something. If caught early enough breast cancer is 85% curable. If it were me, I would want to be certain early.
Good luck with it,
hugs
Anne
