Question: Carbonated Drinks
I accidentally grabbed some punch at my friend's bridal shower and it had sprite in it. I knew immediately. It kind of "burned" in my mouth and then felt "bubbly" in my tummy. Not a good feeling. I think that once you are off carbonated drinks you have to reaquire the taste. But it didn't make me sick or anything. I would refrain if you can! Might as well keep that door closed if possible.

I know it's a huge debate, but everyone is different-as well as everyone's surgeon is different. I would talk to your surgeon, find out they're take on carbonation. Mine says it's okay in minimal amounts as long as the acids don't bother your pouch. Since we don't have stomach acid to combat the soda's acids, it could cause ulcers easier. I drink diet soda in minimal amounts with no problems. I know when I drink too much because it gives me bad gas.

I haven't tried anything carbonated yet. But I was not a big soda drinker before surgery. I will take my diet, decaf iced tea over soda anyday. My sister is 2 years postop and she occasionally drinks diet soda.
I would definitely check with your surgeon or nutritionist to get their opinion.

Hey Angel
I've taken sips (from 1-2 at a time, on various months post op, beginning month 2) from diet and even REGULAR sodas. Very tiny wee little sips, and yeah it bubbles in my mouth/throat, and I can actually FEEL the soda going down the stoma and then BOOM gas from
I too am craving that acidity. If you are craving something so bad like this, my advice is to take a few TINY sips to cure the urge. You'll probably not like it. OR another alternative is try AquaCal water in any flavor (peach is my absolute faaaaaaave) it has citric acid that "fools" the taste buds making it seem like carbonation but it's not. VERY GOOD IMO

I avoid carbonation... the one time I tried a diet soda I got so distended and I could not belch it up fast enough... UGH! I will never go down that road again!
