I'm just a little over my 3 mos post-op and I'm losing hair like crazy. I have tried protein drinks and try to eat some meats for my protein. Is there a miracle pill to help???

Sorry Dora but sadly the answer to that question is no. I am in the same boat - and its sinking. My hairloss started right around three months and has continued (I am now a little over four months out). I do take biotin and MSM but those two things do not STOP your hair from falling out. Biotin helps generate new growth and MSM keeps hair healthy. I think that the best thing to do it keep up the protein! Good Luck! Jenny

Hi Dora! I share the same surgery date as Jenny, January 10, 2005 which makes me 4 months post op. I have also been losing a lot of hair. I take biotin daily, and saw my doctor yesterday for a post op visit. I told him that I was taking 2500 mcg. per day. He informed me that 600 mcg. per day was adequate. As Jenny mentioned it does not stop the hair loss and helps to rejuvenate new growth. Hope this helps! Take care and best of luck! Aloha, Pat 261/204/goal 115

Hi Dora... I started loosing hair at about 2 mths post op, and it is still going strong. I have lost about 1/2 of my hair volume at this point. I hope it slows down soon, or I might actually be bald if it continues at this rate for another 4 mths. I do not thing there is anything that we can do, as Jenny mentions. I was on a liquid protein diet last year, my last effort before surgery. I was getting 100grms of protein daily, and my hair still fell out. I lost 50 lbs in about 3 mths on that diet. (gained it back natrually) So that tells me that even getting twice the protein I get now, will likly not help things at least not for me. So I guess if I have to, and the hair loss continues to baldness I will have to buy a wig. It will grow back eventually. Last year after I lost so much hair on that liquid protein diet, I began using Nioxin Shampoo. I can say that it caused my hair to grow back so much thicker than ever before, so at least I started out after surgery with much more hair that I usually had. So I am going to keep using the shampoo so that when the hair begins to grow back it will be nice and thick once again. Kiva

Im just starting to experience this. Thankfully it isnt too bad yet, and I have thick short hair. I think I have heard it will stop around the 7th month and it will grow back, so dont fret over it. Just remember how good you feel

Hi Dora, I will be 4 months post op on 5/24 and I started losing my hair about 2 weeks ago. I have very thick hair so I don't think the loss will be too noticable but I am still worried. I take 1000 mcg biotin everyday and started washing my hair with a natural biotin shampoo and conditioner from the Vitamin Shoppe. I hope your hair loss slows down soon. Kim 286/226/150ish?

Hi Dora: I am a little over 4 months out and have been losing hair like crazy for about a month.... My doctor put me on hair/skin/nails vitamins which has biotin and other vitamins necessary for hair growth. Years ago when I had a major weight loss I too had lost alot of hair but it eventually grew back. I don't think there is a miracle pill because I would have found it by now. I'm going to get my hair cut short next week and will hope that the hair loss will stop soon. I started out with really thick shoulder length hair but it is getting pretty thin. I think each person is different and I understand sometimes this is a way for our body to handle stress as well. Good luck on your continued weight loss. Roberta P. lap rny 1/3/05 -83 lbs.

I am about 4 months pre-op and started losing my hair a couple weeks ago. I saw my doctor for a regular checkup and mentioned it to him. He said he had the best results with patients who will get Rogaine for Men. He said not to get the one for women because it is not as strong and it is more expensive. He also said Sam's Club carries it. I am going to get some in a couple of weeks and try it.

Yeah, it's no fun but it won't last too long and we are all in it together Just keep getting in your protein and get some Biotin shampoo. At least that will help with new growth Deanna

I too am right along side of you, sinking inthe same boat. My hair loss seems to pick up everyday. I get my protein and I take biotin daily. Now I am off to find Nioxin and try that. I keep my hair really short and it still does not help much. I hope that my hair does not all fall out and I fear it won't grow back b/c females in my family start loosing their hair in their 30s anyways... I am 28! EEK!
