weight loss and sizes dropped
I watched Oprah last week (Thursday?) when she had Bob Greene, who helped her all these years with her weight loss. Both Oprah and Bob said that for every 10 pounds we lose, we will drop a clothing size. This has definitely not been the case for me, as I have only dropped down 2 clothing sizes with over 65 pounds lost. I was just wondering if it is because I started in the Womens (W) sizes, and maybe we have to lose more weight to get down to the next W size?
Anyone else have this issue or does everyone else go down about 1 size for every 10 pounds?
Thanks for your responses!

Sue,
Well, I'm right there with you. I wore a size 3x pants, 4x shirt. I've lost 60 lbs. and I'm still wearing my 2x shirts, and 3xpants. just one size down. Now I admit, I could probably go to a 2x pants now, but I just wear a blousy top over a tank, and that way, it kinda of hides the baggy pants. I don't want to spend too much for summer, I want to have money for fall.!!!!!! I imagine they're referring to people that don't have elastic in everything!!!

Hi Sue!!
I think this is a trick question. Sizes vary so much, that it's hard for me to pinpoint it. B4 surgery I wore around a 24W, at the time of surgery I was wearing around a 20W (lost 28lbs preop). Now I am wearing a size 16 regular. So after 86lbs lost you can see how that just doesn't work out, in a way it's like 5 sizes though..............right? I CAN wear some 18's and some 14's too though. So I guess my answer is, NOPE, they are wrong, but sizes are jumping like crazy for me anyways. LOL

I think when you're IN the smaller sizes, 10 pounds = 1 size. I have a friend who fights 10 pounds to 20 pounds up/down all the time --- and she's about a size 10. And she doesn't have a wardrobe spanning a lot of sizes. I've always envied her ability to wear sweaters she's owned for 12 years or more, that she's taken wonderful care of and they look like NEW. And of course, they fit!
I started in January at size 26/28 in tops and about size 30 in pants. Now I'm in size 18 tops, size 22 suit jackets. Size 24 pants. I've lost 60 pounds. There are some clothes I still wear, but many of my 'professional' work clothes I gave to a fund-raising rummage sale (held by a club I belong to). I had to find new clothing (new job! ) on the discount rack, Goodwill, hand-me-downs. I'm definitely NOT paying full price for something I am not going to be wearing for very long.
It felt REALLY good to go into a store for the first time post surgery (in April) and pick out clothing, go into the dressing room and discover that EVERYthing I selected was too BIG. WOW. Bras, too. Sure, I could wear the loose clothing. But I feel so wonderful in clothing that FITS. So I don't have a lot to wear, but I feel great in it.
Penney's had a great sale last weekend and I even bought some new jewelry (looks real, it's costume! LOL). I had my hair cut and highlighted to show off the weight loss in my face. I can't believe the difference in my face! I saw a photo (head/shoulders shot) taken for my new job. I want a copy of that photo... incredible.
Yeah, I've got 100 pounds to go to goal. But I already feel sooo much better than I did before surgery. I can't believe the difference 60 pounds has already made in my health.
Blood pressure was 90-something over 60 the other day!!! Cholesterol is 157. I can get up and down from furniture without 'launching' myself. I can walk up and down stairs normally. I have sooo much more energy.
I fit into a student desk on campus today (it's graduation -- all staff participates) and there was ROOM. I sat sideways in that chair with attached desk and when I turned and faced forward, there was still room left. WOW.
