Poll: Drink with meals?
Nope, no drinking while eating here. RARELY do I eat something that is so dry that I need to take a sip but if I do, it's one of those put your finger over the straw and drop what's in the straw into your mouth kind of deals. LOL!
Actually drinking while eating has nothing to do with stretching your pouch and everything to do with pouch contents and flushing your nutrients. It's why we are supposed to limit "soups". Our new pouches (RNY folks) no longer have a sphincter (ring of muscle that opens and closes a vessel, channel or tube in the body) there is no way for our pouch to hold the food inside and act as a storage tank like our old stomachs are designed to be. So we need to keep our foods kind of masslike and less like liquid in order to slow it down as it travels from pouch to intestine so that the intestines can have a better oppertunity to absorb the nutrients. If it rushes through it has no chance to absorb! Whi*****reases our weight loss but in a very unhealthy way b/c we end up becoming deficiant in vitamins and minerals. PLUS if we drink before our meals our pouch and intestines cannot process as much food and we need every chance we can get to process as much nutrients at each sitting. That is why it is only 30 minutes before (fluid moves through the system fast) and it is a 45- 1 hr wait afterwards (food moves slower).
Get it? I guess it helps when you have a basis in medicine to understand all this plumbing rerouting that went on during surgery! LOL!
Brightest Blessings for a Wonderful Day~
