Vitamin Check!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to pop in and see what kind of vitamins everyone else is taking and get some advice. I am taking a One-A-Day Women's multivitamin/multimineral supplement, one sublingual 500 mcg tablet of B12 daily, and 2 calcium citrate/vitamin D supplements per day (each has 315 mg of calcium). I only take two of those because my One-A-Day contains 450 mg of calcium (but it is calcium carbonate which I know doesn't absorb as well - Should I count that towards my daily calcium?). Do you think that I am getting everything that I need? Can anyone recommend anything else? Should I be concerned that my One-A-Day does not have any Vitamin K? I have heard that is important (in what aspect I am not sure) but that most multivitamins do not have it. Can anyone shed any light on that? Thanks and have a great day! Jenny

Hey Kate, I have read in several places on here (in the FAQ's) that your body can only absorb 500 mg of calcium at a time so it doesn't really do any good to take any more than that at one time. I don't know how accurate that is because I have not asked my doctor, but if it is true maybe you should break your supplement in half and do that twice a day. Just in case. I think that the Centrum and my One-A-Day are pretty similar, but mine does not have biotin in it, I may have to add that to my regiment. Have a great day! Jenny

I added 1000 mcg of biotin to my regiment today - hope that it helps my hair! (Although I know it just improves quality and not quantity). I also noticed that a lot of people take Centrum so I grabbed a bottle of Centrum A to Zinc and from now on I intend to alternate between them and the Women's One-A-Day (I couldn't decide which was best, they both have different positives). The best of both worlds. The only hard thing is finding the time to take 5 vitamins through out the day and to eat! Who knew taking vitamins could be exhasting, lol.

If your one a day has iron in it that you can't count the calcium from that pill... calcium and iron do not like each other. So watch out for that! I take Bioten Extreme x2 a day, Centrum chewable Multi-Vit x 2 a day, calcium supplements x2 a day, folic acid x1 a day, and b-12 sub-ling x1 a day and an Allegra 180 x 1 a day. Now my supplements and meds are split up into this nifty meds case that spilts doeses into early am, late am, early evening, late evening compartments, and each "day" is in it's own column type of box that pops out from the tray so that you can take your day's worth of meds with you wherever you go! I got is from walmart and it rocks! Anyways, I too split up my twice a day meds among evening and morning doses. Jamie

I think I'm going to have to talk a long hard look at my vitamins after ready what everyone is taking. All I'm taking is a multi vitman and a calcium a day. Don't sound like enough to me and may be why my hair is falling out.
