GOALS?

Does everyone set a "goal" either weight or other each month (or more or less often)? If so, what is your next "goal" and how often do you set these goals? I have a few major goals: 1. Weight: To be below 200 pounds. Don't have a goal date for this, because it is hard to believe that it will ever happen! Do not have a monthly weight loss goal this month and am curious what others expect. 2. Regular-size clothing. I have hardly changed clothing sizes, even after losing over 60 pounds. I can't wait to be in "regular" sizes instead of plus or WIDE sizes. My ultimate goal is a size 12-14. I would be happy with that. 2. Depression control. I have really been suffering and hoping the medication kicks in and if there is improved self-confidence that it will help stabilize the depression. Thanks in advance for your replies. SueZ

OK now I'm really embarrassed! I have really always thought that the W meant WIDE, because those sizes are cut larger (or wider) in many areas. BTW, what size clothing did you start at (if you don't mind sharing that), because you said you will be in single digits in just a few months, that is awesome!! Sounds like you are doing great with your goals! Good luck preparing for the fun run. SueZ

Ok mine are: 1. To weigh less then 250 2. then to weigh less then 200 3. to walk a mile in less then 15 mins (4 mins away) 3. to stop taking prozac I have a ways to go on these, but I will make it. I have reduced my prozac by 1/2. I am 35 pounds from 250, which is great because I was 102 pounds from it three months ago. Jenn

You are doing great, Jenn! I like the goal about reducing the Prozac. Unfortunately, I have had to add a psych med and increase the amount of another from before surgery. Well maybe that should be a goal for me in the very FAR future. Keep up the good work! SueZ

I had so many goals... 1. be under 200 by 1 month out 2. be at goal by 1 year out. That was really about it. I didn't know I would end up being tube fed and in the hospital for 19 days. Never expected the complications (see profile)So I did not achieve my first goal. No biggie anyway. I feel as long as the scale is going down that is a good thing. I thought I was losing slowly but I am about average I think. I had about 100 to lose and am considered a light weight by some. I have been told that the less you have to lose the slower it comes off. Not sure if that is true or not. I feel really good most of the time now and that makes me happy. I am down to mostly 16 or 14 clothing (depends on the cut) and that makes me VERY VERY happy. I can no longer fit in any plus size clothing even the 14W is big on me. I never thought I would see that day lol. I find if I make to many goals and then don't make them I get bummed out so I just hope for a loss each month and that seems better for my head to deal with :> HUGS Mary RNY 1/17/05 (lap, then open second emergency surgery) 218/175/115

OMG Mary, your hospital emergenies were awful. You went through so much! I am so glad you are doing better now. Before surgery, a big fear I had was that I would end up on a ventilator even if it was for a short time (I was told I might be on a ventilator in the ICU right after surgery, because I had sleep apnea). It is good that you don't remember a lot from that period of time. And you are already down to a size 14 clothing, that is great! Hope things continue to go well for you now. SueZ

Hi Sue: I make event based goals, not time based goals. When I make time based goals, I find that I am too unrealistic. I will attend a friend graduation on June 12 in CA, so my goal is to wear a size 16 by then. Currently, I can fit a size 18, but they are tight. So I actually wear a very loose 20. Then I am going to a wedding in October. My goal is to wear a size 12 or less by then. I don't set too many exercising goals. I have decided against exercising like a mad woman. My take is this: I want to have an exercise plan that I can maintain for the rest of my life. So I try to exercise 3X a week. I want my weight to come off at about 3 lbs per week so that I can minimize my sagging skin with weight bearing exercise. Sassy

Event based goals are a good idea. I think 3 lbs lost per week is a great goal. I was also told something similar by my physician (2 to 3 lbs per week). SueZ
