HOW MANY CALORIES?

How many calories per day are we supposed to be taking in? Today, I've had 721cals in all, 71g protein, 63 carbs , and 27 fat g Does this sound like too much or normal? My doctor says he doesn't calorie/fat/carb count, but he DOES protein counts... Should I even worry? I need to know what everyone is taking in on average... ~*~*~Beth~*~*~ 329.4/266/140 http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/profile.phtml?N=H1077226915

Beth, If I were going by my surgeon's nutritionist's guidelines I'd be eating about 1200 calories (25% of those from fat), about 65 carbs, and 51 - 64 g. protein/day. There is just no WAY I can eat that much right now. I started charting my progress on fitday.com a few weeks ago. Turns out with the excercise I was getting I was netting UNDER 600 calories a day. So I upped it. Now I get anywhere from 700 - 1000 calories/day and 25 - 28% from fat. I get about 50 - 60 or so carbs a day and I've upped my protein to anywhere from 100 - 115 g./day. I was so tired all the time. I let my surgeon's office know I had upped my protein that much and they didn't seem alarmed. That is what I bring in. The extra calories/protein really are coming whether or not I drink a 20 oz. Isopure and/or have a tall decalf NF SF vanilla latte that day or not I am down 61 pounds so I am pretty happy! I noticed once I ate a few more calories and ate more protein I started loosing a bit faster... Elaine

My doctor didn't give me any guidelines either, except for at least 60 protein grams. I average between 800 and 900 calories... going to work on getting this higher... with my daily activities I netted just under 400 calories yesterday. Fat grams yesterday were 33, carbs were 46 yikes, and protein was 104. I know if we don't take in enough calories then we need to worry about going into "hybernation syndrome"... I'm planning on adding another protein drink to my daily schedule to up the calories a little and the protein percentage. Hope this helps Patty Open RNY 1/5/05 319/263/140

My doctor wants me to get at least 80 grams protein a day and calorie range between 800-1200. I usually average about 83 grams protein, 800-900 calories and anywhere from 50-80 grams of carbs (mainly coming from nonfat dairy). I also found that when I up the calories & protein I lose faster. I typically avg about 800-1000 calories a day, try and keep the carbs under 25 a day. I keep the protein around 90-110 a day and try and keep the fats down around 25% of my totals. I use fitday.com so I can watch the pie chart and adjust ad needed throughout the day! Jamie

I have asked this ? so many times. My DR only said to get in between 50>60 protien a day. I try and stay below 1000 cals a day. i must admitt I don'****ch the others to much because to keep the cals down you almost have to keep the others down. I've lost 60 lbs so far so I hope that I am doing something right. Hope this helps.........................Peggy
