Hey Everyone, Does anyone go to Bariatric Surgery support group meetings? I have looked into it, but I'm still undecided. I think this website is so awesome. It is great to be able to communicate with others that go through the same thing. I know when I first had surgery, I wished that I didn't. But now I am 61 lbs lighter, clothes are falling off, along with my hair (lol), and I have so much energy its unbelievable. Does anyone live in Georgia? thanks. Lavonna

Lavonna, I don't live in Georgia, sorry. But I do want to start attending my surgeons support group meetings. They have the nutritionist, phsycologist (sp?), surgeon, and guest speakers at most of the meetings. Then they break up into little groups and share your experiences, problems, questions, etc. I had to go to one as part of my pre-op requirements and it was very educational and fun. I hope you can find one in your area, I would suggest attending one just to get the feel of it. I agree with you this site is wonderful, but it was also neat to meet people in person who have been where you are or are currently going through the same things. Kim

I do attend my local support group meetings (in Maryland), but not regularly 2x a month, only about once a month or less. I am very shy and don't do the social stuff really well, but the meetings are helpful anyway. This site also usually helps, too, although there are clicks here just like anywhere and some of us do not receive feedback/responses when we post and others receive feedback/responses every time they say anything online. Like I said, I am shy and I guess I do not communicate as well as the others, so geeting support can be hard. Good luck getting support there in Georgia, probably would be very beneficial for you to go, especially at this point when issues are starting to arise (like the hair loss and all the things that go with losing over 60 pounds so far). I attend a support group that meets monthly. I do not attend my surgeon's support group very often because it's located in a hospital and there is a group meeting that is closer to my home. I receive a lot of support and advice from my group. We also have a clothing exchange that is really awesome!

Lavonna, Sorry I am not from Georgia!! I did want to tell you that I do attend my surgeons group at the hospital but only go once a month. I also attend a support group in my neighborhood which meets every other week. I figure between these two meetings I will be okay. Just giving my info. Thanks and good luck in finding a group to join, Becky P.
