I think I started losing my hair
I have also noticed that I am losing hair. I really noticed it when I looked at my preop picture and compared it to my 3-month picture that I posted on my profile. I heard that a good percentage of people lose their hair around 3 months after surgery, and mine pretty much has gotten bad since my 3-month date. It is depressing, but will grow back. A lot of people have said it only lasts 2 to 4 months and then grows back, sometimes grows back very different from how it was before. I hope mine is grows back thick and wavy!
I had surgery a few years ago and actually lost a 2-1/2-inch circle of hair after surgery. My hair apparently got caught in the buckle by my head and I woke up with a huge lump. I ended up losing all the hair in that area, but it did grow back!
We will have to find a good wig store--hey, maybe I can get a blonde wig?

I know it will grow back I want it to grow back the same though. I have thick curly red hair. So I think I have thought for so long it was the only pretty thing about me, at 352 it was hard to see anything else pretty. I have heard all my life about it, so I get a complex thinking it may go away. I know it is stupid to worry so much about it. I guess I am just being self centered.

Hi!
I am losing hair also. I am trying to let it grow also which basically stinks. I am losing a ton in the shower in the morning. I have really thick hair so it's not noticeable to anyone else yet but me but I know and that is enough. I have heard bad things about Monixidol (meaning you use it and your hair grows but when you stop it starts to fall out again) so I think I am going to stick it out and see what happens. I knew this could be an issue but I knew the WLS was worth it but it still really makes me sad.
Most of us knew this was a likely short-term side effect (if our doctors didn't discuss it, then the OH message boards sure do!!)...remember, the primary things we can do to reduce the problem: Keep your protein up and make sure you're taking Biotin!
On the advice of plenty of OH members, I bought a bottle of Nioxin shampoo two weeks ago when I started noticing lots of stray strands showing up everywhere I went. It was a bit pricey ($12.95 at Wal-Mart), but I figured it was worth a try. Can't say I see any change to the amount of hair I'm observing in places other than my head, but I've only used it for about 10 days now.
Hang in there everybody -- we'll get through this phase together also... let's stay focused on the GREAT things this surgery has done for us!!

Unfortunately all of us will more than likely go through this. I hear ya Jennifer, I have thick naturally curly red hair too and I don't want to lose that but there isn't a lot I/we can do about it except just tell yourself it is only temporarily..thank goodness! I talked to my surgeon about taking Biotin but he said that all it will do is improve the quality of the hair not keep it from falling out. Like someone mentioned before, make sure you're getting in your protein and try not to stress too much
Hang in there!

Hi Jenn,
I am new to this site. I am also three months post-op. My surgeon told me to make sure that I drink plenty of protein, because I would more than likely lose some of my hair. Thank God, I had just changed hair styles and it is now short. I can tell my hair is thinner on top, because normally it is very thick. But to feel healthier and look so much better, I'll take a little hair loss. Sometimes we have to take the bad with the good. Take care, Lavonna
