Okay you all have confirmed it I'm normal. Thank you all for your notes and letting me know that what I'm feeling is very real and normal. There are things that they just don't tell you before this surgery and if they do you can't understand them till you go through it. I am mad that they talk so much about dumping then only about a third of us ever dump. I think that makes the head thing harder when you don't dump. I also wish that my surgen had given me more giudelines to follow, what to eat and what not to and how much. Other than saying that we need a well balanced diet and try get in 50-60g of protien, and 64oz of water, a day he tells you nothing. Well thanks again and enjoy the weekend...................Peggy

Same with my surgeon. I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to operate on me. But my lack of weight loss etc is my problem. I have seen a nutritionist, but........within my own little support group here in town, she has been very contradictory with her suggestions, so I've lost faith. You all here on the community board help me tremendously, giving me suggestions, and things to try. I like you Peggy, need the support here. I don't dump either, but I'm chicken to try sweets or soda. But everything else is fair game. Beautiful day here, hope it is where you are too. Dianne

I will be three months this Thursday - had lost 35 lbs as of last Sunday - (I only weigh on Sunday) - I have been discouraged at my slow loss but also know there are several things that I should be doing (like exercising) that would help. The past 3 days I have upped my liquid intake and have tried to up my protein intake. Guess what? I lost 2 lbs today. I am going to try and keep it up on a daily basis. Reading these posts helps me a lot. Like I just learned to mix my Kashi Go Lean cereal (which tastes like twigs) in my yogurt. That gave me 20 grams of protein just for breakfast and was delicious! I also copied 70 protein drink recipes recently, some of which call for SF pudding mixed in and some with low carb ice cream - hopefully this will make them more palatable. I have to try and get in at least one if not more daily. I am going to try a lot of the recipes.

You want guidelines?? I'll lend you mine! Type in www.....and then harthosp.org from the menu on the left hit bariatric surgery...(Dr. Darren Tishler...) and read the site...it will take you to a complete handbook and dietary guidelines...and he is no frills. I am lucky as we have full support groups and great follow up care. Didn't you have to see anutritionist preop?? I did..and was sent home with the guidelines you will read. Take what you can use and leave the rest. Always remember..it is protein in first...all the time...forever...healthy carbs after that, and fruit after that..if there is room. Sher' 272/222/???

I have found that there is a HUGE difference between a general surgeon doing WLS and a bariatric surgeon doing the WLS when it comes to aftercare. I had mine done by a general surgeon on a military base and my aftercare orders were very small. Whereas the folks at the local civilian hospital get huge packets of information from their bariatric surgeons! Oh well, live and learn! That is why it is so important for us to do our own research I guess!
