Does everyone use protein supplements?
It's interesting how surgeon's opinions about this vary. The original surgeon I consulted about WLS did not want his patients using protein shakes after they were off the liquid stage and wanted it only from real food sources. The surgeon who did my surgery is realistic in the fact that if he wants me to get a minimum of 80 grams a day, with a pouch that at 2 months out can't hold more than 2 ounces per meal, it's not possible without supplementing. As I get further out he wants to see me getting more protein from food than shakes, but in the meantime instructs us to supplement because it's a necessity.
I'll fess up and admit that because I've had problems with vomiting and meats not sitting well in my pouch, many times I opt for the liquid protein over solid foods. I've been vomit-free for almost 2 weeks now and need to get brave and start trying more things again.

Jenn, I have to say that I still at 9 1/2 weeks out have to have a protein shake in the morning. I can't get all my protein in by just eating food just yet. For now I am okay with this and don't believe that it will hurt me. I am required to get 55 grams of protein a day.
Just adding my 2 cents!

I get my prtoetin from food and from supplements. There is no way possible for me to get in the 85g+ that my nutritionist wants me getting in so I start off my day with a protein drink (low carb - low cal) and then I do one in the afternoon after one of my workout routines. I get 60g in from the drinks and the rest I get in from food. TRUST ME, I eat enough...LOL!
Brightest Blessings for a Wonderful Day~
