9 weeks out & need help

I'm 9 weeks out, down 40+ lbs and can eat just about everything I've tried. I haven't tried rice or sweets and learned the hard way that 1/2 a toasted English muffin is NOT the same thing as toast, so nothing but cheese toast for me in the bread dept. I can eat steak, chicken, pasta, salads and all kinds of veggies. I'm getting in my required 48 oz. of liquid most days (6 out of 7). I haven't been walking regularly but yesterday I briskly walked 1/2 mile and wasn't even out of breath! Today I'm going to try to walk a mile. My concern is the amount of food I'm eating. I don't really get a feeling of fullness, but I do hiccup when I've had enough. I try to eat slowly but usually finish my meals in 10-15 minutes. This is what I ate yesterday: AM: 11 oz. Crystal Light Sunrise Classic Orange Breakfast: 2 oz. smoked ham Lunch: 2 oz. grilled chicken tenderloin 1/4 C green beans cooked with meat Dinner: 2 oz. Pulled Pork with 1 teaspoon BBQ sauce 1/4 C green beans cooked with meat 4 broccoli flowerets 1/8 baked potato w/out skin 1 teaspoon margarine on potato & broccoli PM Snack: 1 oz. No Sugar Added Bread & Butter Pickle (1 spear) 1 oz. Dill Gerkins (2 pickles) 1 oz. No Sugar Added Sweet Gerkins (1 pickle) Water: 51 oz. (I usually drink about 40 oz. water in a day) According to FitDay.com this totals: 392 calories 17 g. Fat 12 g. Carb 48 g. Protein Is this too much food? My surgeon's nurse tells me not to worry, that my pouch was made with about 1.5 oz. capacity and the stoma was the size of a pinky finger. If that is the case then I'm afraid I've stretched my stoma and/or pouch. How else could I consume so much food at one meal??? Help! I'm really scared & worried. I've worked too hard to have this surgery to let this be just one more failure!! Vickie J.

I don't think you are eating too much. My surgeon told me we should be getting in 800 calories per day at this point. I usually eat 800 to 900 calories per day, and at least 80 grams of protein. I am 10 weeks post op, and have lost 37 lbs. I too can eat pretty much everything (I wish I couldn't), and worry that I eat too much. I think as long as we are getting in the water and proteins and stay away from the bad carbs we are doing okay. Sounds like you are doing great!

I think you both are very lucky, and are doing great. I am also 9wks out, but cannot eat just anything, and lately seems like nothing. I had a 4wks period that I could barely drink any water and that really set me back. I am sticking it out until my 3mth checkup at the end of April and I am going to ask for a scoping to be sure the stoma is not too narrow. At this point I have developed an adversion to eating!!! Right something I never thought could happen.!!! jane

Jane, I hope you get good news and can begin eating soon. I don't know how you're getting by if you can't eat but I hope things improve for you soon! Vickie J.

Thanks for the input! I can't imagine eating 800 calories right now. No, that isn't true - I CAN imagine it but don't think I'll try it. I need limits to keep me on track so I guess I'll keep doing what I'm doing. Sounds like you're doing great, too. Keep up the good work! Vickie J.

Girl, you are doing great. My surgeon has me eating between 900-1200 calories a day (I also excercise 6 days a week for at least 2 hours a day) so compared to you, I am eating like a cow! LOL! Actually I eat about the same amount it is just that some of my meals are high calorie (before and after exercise--- like high protein drinks or meal replacement bars). But when it comes to food we are eating the same amount at a sitting. Jamie, WOW! I'm impressed with your weight loss!! I don't exercise (bad back problems) but am trying to walk more. My surgeon doesn't like us to use protein supplements - wants us to get our protein from "regular" foods. Thanks for your reply! Vickie J.

Yeah mine does too but he also realized that I'd never get in all of my protein with regular food since my nutritionist wants me getting over 80-100 g a day! LOL! (I have to get in more protein than most b/c of my workout regiment.) Thanks for the complements! Jamie

Doesn't look like too much to me....looks great! I wish I could eat that much (I have zero appetite). Look at the bright side - you're getting in enough protein. Many post-ops don't (myself included). Keep up the good work! (And I'm impressed you can eat steak - I miss it!) Melissa 399/307/180

Melisssa, Thanks for responding! Hang in there and you'll be eating steak before you know it! The only problem I have is that steak & chicken MUST be tender & juicy. If it is dry or tough - forget it! Keep up the good work! Vickie J.
