So am I the only one still not feeling...
as well as I thought I would feel??
I had surgery on Jan 25th. I will be 8 wks post op at the end of the day tomorrow.
The 1st 4.5 wks were good. No pain to speak of, and the eating of liquids and soft foods was good.
But the last 3.5 wks have been difficult.
I have ed 3 times one because I had no choice, and two other times I just make myself so that I would not have to be in agony for hours.
I seem to have nausea all the time. I have a difficult time drinking fluids, without have my tummy grumble and cramp on me. And no matter what fluids it seems to be that way unless I am drinking a protein drink. When several hours go by in between eating, I find that the nausea is there and sometimes a tummy ache that I cannot really describe well. Something sort of wierd in the pit of my tummy.
Anyway I did call the surgeon and they felt that it was just that adjustment period when changing from soft foods to more solids, and that it will pass.
Yesterday I had for luch one rolled up piece of turket lunch meat and a few crakers. It stuck like a baseball in my chest for 1 hr. I could have made myself sick but I refused trying to force the pouch to diegest the food. I swear I chewed chewed chewed. I am just at a loss.
I guess I had very high expectations to be feeling great by now, and it's just not there yet.
Anyone else having similar symthoms?
I am due to see the surgeon at 3 mths out, another 4wks, if I am still the same I will ask for an ulcer test, and maybe a scoping to ensure the opening is big enough...
Sign me tired...
Jane
I to thought I would be feeling better by now. I have finally gotten to where I am only sick 3 or so days a week. I miss allot of work just from feeling like I could not keep things down well. I have been on solids for four weeks. My surgeon tells me it is just a hard time because I am having to learn how to eat again, slow and chewing allot. I know this is somewhat true, but it is hard to slow down when your on your lunch break or out with someone. I am also tired allot. That is surprising, but makes sense, seeing is how my body is running on limited intake. Last week was the first week I was at work for 4 days. I was so happy. Then I woke up sick this moring. Last week shows me that it will get better, it just takes time. We are all different so some are doing great. However if we think about it we are doing better then many who may have had serious problems. I hope you start to feel better soon.

Hi Jane,
I'm sorry that you are having such a hard time right now. Have you tried sipping a little water with your meals? I know its a no-no to drink water with meals, but it helps me if i eat something that is a little dry or feels funny in my pouch.
I am sure it will get better with time, but if you are still struggling you should call your Dr. again.
I wish you well,
Chris
Thanks Chris.
I feel like I have tried everything. The nausea is just always there. I thought it was ice tea doing it, and so today I only drank water. But it's with me still. I have gone back to soft foods, and liquids until this thing runs its course. I plan to call the doc again on Thurs to discuss it.

Jane,
I too became very discouraged around 5 wks or so. I did great right after the surgery. I had very little pain, did everything I was told, followed the diet to the word, and thought I was on top of the world. Then around 5 weeks and still now (8 weeks) I cannot eat hardly anything. I was having a very hard time getting the fluids in and became dehydrated, which makes you so tired your arms and legs feel like lead. I missed a couple days of work because of it. Finally my nutritionist put me back to the beginning of liquids. It was the best thing. I stopped throwing up and just concentrated on my liquids. I am still having a hard time with the eating thing, but I'm not going to pu**** It is only temporary and my body will let me eat when it is ready. I would suggest you go back to mostly liquids. If your opening was too small nothing other than liquids would pass through and you would have thrown up much more than 3 times. I am on 6 times so far. The food isn't worth the sick feeling, so I am just going to wait it out.
Jane:
I have nausea every single morning. I decided to only have a protein shake in the morning and not to eat anything until lunchtime. That really helps me. I also have a cup of peppermint tea midmorning, which settles my stomach. The few times that I did have breakfast, I was sick all day long. I remember having an egg and it just sat there. I felt miserable.
Try the peppermint tea and see whether that helps.
Monique
Thanks Monique
I will try the peppermit tea, that might help. I feel like I have to have my protein smoothie in the a.m. otherwise I will not get enough in for the day. But I have tried mixing it up and having cereal in the a.m. and the drink at lunch, etc.. but still the nausea is with me.
Thanks for the tip.
Jane.
What a day for this topic. Had my smoothie for breakfast like normal, protien drink for break then went downhill from there with lunch. The only meat I've been able to keep down is beef so I had a strip of fajhita beef. Normally I would have 3 small strips but by the time the one was half gone, so was I. To the bathroom. Felt rotten the rest of the day but stuck it out at work. I'm just now able to keep down a popcycle. This happens about once every week or 2 with me. Frustrating but by the next morning, I'm feeling better again. I'm hoping things calm down soon but until then, it's mostly liquids for me too,
