I keep reading about it, and I'm scared to experience it, but I haven't had to at all. I've had the upset stomach feeling and had to lay down but I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and ..... Am I alone or are there others? I'm not complaining just wondering, can I really not eat certain things or am I not for fear of "the worst". Enquiring minds wanna know....lol. Thanks, Pat 348/298

I haven't barfed ever from anything I ate - once I wanted to and got the tingling cheeks from mindlessly eating a couple of shrimps too fast, but nada. I barfed so much coming out of anesthesia I not only had ALL the meds they could give by IV, but then got the patch behind the ear and all was well. The only other times was with the 4-5 upper GIs (can't remember exact number, had so many) while in the hospital for 3+ weeks because of the gastrogastric fistula... but other than than, I have never barfed since or ever from eating... and I don't want to... So... I take it very easy and kinda eat the same things over and over again. I love the mini quiches - half of one of those w/sour cream and cottage cheese and I'm in heaven ((((skinny hugs)))) wendyb 302/261.5 - 40.5

I haven't barfed once either - I am a little over 2 months out. Of course now that I say that I am going to jinx myself! But everything I have tried eating so far (deli ham, deli turkey, chili w/ meat, roast beef, chicken, etc.) has gone down well. Yes sometimes my tummy is upset but so far never once barfed....

Hi Pat, I was so afraid of and did anything and everything to avoid it. Then one night I had baked fish for the first time since surgery and I ate it to fast and it was to dry. I felt terrible, I had heartburn and it felt like something was stuck in my chest. My mouth filled up with siliva and I just kept swallowing praying that I wouldn't this went on for about thirty minutes. It was so uncomfortable and completely AVOIDABLE!! I had to and then I felt soooooooooooooooo much better. What an idiot I was to have fought it for so long. It was over in seconds and the relief was immediate! I will never fight this again if I have to I'm going to !! I just eat slow like I'm supposed to and chew well and there is no problem. I have had baked fish since then and it was delicous and went down with no complications. So what I'm trying to say after all of this ranting is if it happens it happens for a reason and it's just a bodily function. That's just the way I am going to be looking at it any ways. Thanks for listening Take care, Anne B

I haven't either. I had surgery on 1/25 and I hate throwing up so I do ANYTHING in my power to avoid it.

Well....I have . But it has been my fault. My first time was at Cracker Barrell. Oh how embarrassing...I did make it to the bathroom in time. Anyway...wanted to try a bite of cole slaw - and it made a "U" turn and came back. The other time, I was in a hurry and drank my milk too fast - up it came. I am 9 weeks out - and other than those 2 times - doing well.

I've hurled twice in 2 months..both times were from not chewing as well as I thought...and it was sweet red pepper one time and a green bean the next. On one of the incidents..I forthed and got mucous and had about 4 or 5 episodes before the pouch quieted down..spanning from 1:30Am to 4 Am...but felt lots better when I got the offender up. Second bout was over more quickly..and really no big deal. Hurling did not HURT...but the nausea and turning green before hand were the WORST!! Another thing..and (sorry for being so graphic)...I don't know WHERE it all comes from..but MUCH more than 2 ounces of stuff comes up....and that is pretty nasty....overall though..hurling was a RELIEF!!! Ok, so I'm not alone ! You know that feeling some of us had at the beginning, like maybe this didn't work for me, well I was beginning to think that something is wrong because everyone else talks about how they get sick for different reasons. I think I take comfort in telling myself "you can't have that or you're going to throw up" and it scares me that if I do get brave that it might not make me sick. I am "allergic" to ing, so I avoid it at all cost too. Thanks for listening and sharing! Pat -50

Being sick and sickly...is not a requirement for post ops...it is just very common on this web site....which can lead one to think it is the norm..when in fact..it is not. the real goal is to perk along happy and healthy and "normally"..only we eat less and wisely. Sher'

Hi Pat, 2 months & 5 days out and haven't once!!! I wish I could have 3 times because I was trying to combine something with eating and forgot to chew. I don't want to know if I can't eat certain things. As long as I think they will make me sick, I won't try them. I also have been following doctors orders to the letter and I attribute his experience to my well being. He's been doing this surgery for 30 years so the man must know something I'm feeling great and looking forward to the rest of my life and these changes. Christie 269/218 -51
