I was wondering how much protein I should be taking in per day, does anyone know how to make it taste good or any helpful ways to make this transition go smoother? Thanks all

I was told by my nutritionist that I needed 80 to 100 grams per day. I can usually get 80, but 100 is tough. I add a couple of slices of banana and milk and ice, and blend my chocolate powder, and that tastes pretty good. I also like isopure. It is like kool-aid, and much easier to drink. Also cottage cheese is an excellant source of protein.

This is a question best asked for your surgeon, if you have follow up care. My surgery was 1/12/05 and from 6 weeks to 6 months the protein I am supposed to get in is based on my height (5'8"), which for me is between 51 and 64 grams per day. This of course is less than others who had surgery at the same time, so better ask your surgeon (if you can) for the amount he/she wants you to get in with the diet you are supposed to follow. Good luck!

Hi Misty Nett! I had my lap rny on January 10th so I am 9 weeks post op. Since the day that I arrived home my doctor told me to make sure that I got at least 70 gms. of protein besides the food that I would eventually be eating. I found the Isopure Dutch Chocolate Powder at GNC and it is delicious. It gives me 70 grams of protein everyday. I can drink it plain or what I like to do is use 2-1/2 scoops of powder, crushed ice, iced water and 1 scoop of Carb Solutions ice cream (only 2 net carbs) I shake it up really well and it is delicious. I think that for me this is the easiest way and it also tastes good too. I have been told by several people, and even my doctor agrees that the Isopure powder is one of the best, and for me it seems to be the best! Hope this helps and welcome to the losing side!!! Pat

My surgeon's advice is 60-70/day. I usually drink 2 Atkins shakes (love the coffee flavored ones) and that takes care of 40 grams, then with the cottage cheese, eggs and some kind of fish/meat for dinner, I'm usually always between 60-70. Some days I can only get to 50 or so without the shakes, so I pretty much always add the shakes into the mix, plus I count them as part of my fluid, too. That's what I have the hardest time getting in, is the fluid -- it's a stretch to get 40-50 oz without the protein shakes counted. ((((skinny hugs)))) wendyb 1.11.05 302/261.5 -40.5
