My nutritionist says no popcorn for a few reasons... one- humans can't really digest corn well so eating it is kinda pointless, two- right after surgery, even well chewed would be too rough on our new systems, three- too much carbs. I substitute EAT SMART CheddAirs, like popcorn in consistancy but easy to diges****er soluable, and has protein in it! Gum- My surgeon say NO WAY! If you accidentally swallow it it would have to be surgically removed, so it is not worth the risk. Straws- lets too much air into your stomach according to my doc. Personally I use them when I am drinking smoothies (thick shake-like things) otherwise I just forget the straw. HTH!
