SUPPER TIME BLUES
I am having a terrible time with food espically at supper time. I am 7 weeks post op and am really not eating very much except protein bars and shakes. Solids do not want to go down nor stay down. I have no problem with cheese, protein bars, protein shakes, regular water and other drinks. It just seems to be me and meat. I can make canned chicken salad at noon and eat a small portion but no go at supper. Does any one have the same problem or any ideas on what to do. I am really getting frustrated. Thanks you all a head of time. The message board has been a great help already. Peg
I had a similar problem recently. I was told to start taking iron pills on March 4. So, I did regularly as I do with my vitamins. Then I started throwing EVERYTHING up. It didn't matter what it was, I threw it up. So, I stopped taking my iron and now everything is back to normal. I asked about it and my surgeon said he would rather see me eating with no iron supplement than not eating with an iron supplement.
Sometimes you gotta switch things around a little. I couldn't have my calcium in the morning or I felt like h$ll all day, so I switched it to night time.
Just keep on trying, sometimes it just takes time.

Stop on by the cooking board and look for cheese recipes or go to foodnetwork.com I make these great little cheese snacks that taste like goldfish... you can find the recipe on foodnetwork.com under "low carb and lovin it" TV show, it was called mock goldfish crackers.
Have you tried manicotti? That is my favorite "healthy choice" dinner.
HTH!

Hi Margaret,
I, too, am having trouble with dinner. My problem is "frothing" or not tolerating my food. Because of all the trouble, I'd just rather not eat, or continue eating my yogurt or peanut butter. But yesterday, another member gave me some advice. She told me to have a cup of something hot prior to eating, like tea or broth. This may help in digestive process. It seems that our little pouches don't always produce enough acids to digest our foods, especially heavier items like meats, and this is why we have trouble. I'm gonna try this tonight. Good luck to you.
Carolyn
Margaret,
I am having a problem eating as well. I am 6 weeks post op. Mine is more to do with a stricture/scare tissue/ulcer?...Not sure which yet? But I have gone back on an ALL liquid diet. I have a couple of protein shakes a day, and then I usually have some sort of bean/meat/veggie soup that I puree to a thin "pancake batter" consistancy, which I try and have for lunch and dinner. You can freeze individual portions, and have a different soup for lunch and one for dinner. The soups seem to have no problem going down. Progresso has a good split pea and ham, and their Lental soup is also pretty good. There are also lots of soups that you can make with a cheese base.
I hope things start to improve for you soon!
God Bless..........Lanie
