march 17th-corned beef and cabbage?????
I'm a good Irish Catholic girl. I have had corned beef and cabbage every year for over 30 years. I'll be 7 weeks out, do I dare try a nibble?????
Any thoughts on this. I have not tried any lettuce or raw vegetables. I also have not had a good outcome with some broccoli (cooked) that I tried for the first time today. Heartburn? Stuck? Didn't chew well? Don't know for sure. Up until today, I was eating about everything without problems, although the weight loss is at a plateau, even though I'm sticking to 700-800 calories a day. I started exercise too. So depressing. Well, I digressed from my original question about the corn beef. Obviously this is a craving, (head hunger) that I don't need. Still.........
Any words of wisdom from a clearer thinking person than myself right now?

I'm not sure about the cabbage, I may try a bite... but I do know that I'll be having some corned beef, carrots and even a red potato I'm weird, I know, but I like lite-mayo on my St. Patty's day feast, and it will help moisten everything. I'm 8 weeks out and had corned beef hash and a poached egg along with cottage cheese this morning for breaky at our favorite breakfast place, albeit very tiny amounts...
Well cooked cabbage and TENDER pieces of corned beef ought to be ok...with the chew chew chew rules enforced. Makes my mouth water to think about it!
I offer that you may not be eating ENOUGH...I was getting the same number of calories as you and creeping...with weight loss...I added a GOOD whey protein shake or sprinkle it in food..and it has gotten things moving for me.

I for one would love to try corned beef...maybe cooked all day in a crock pot? My doctor has me on pureed foods until end of April, not that I have any problems it's just his diet plan. Not being a "Fear Factor" kind of girl, I stick to things that are naturally mushy [cottage cheese, refried beans etc..] and protein shakes. But I will probably have a bite or two of corned beef on St Patty's Day, just chewed really well, but afraid to try any type of leafy vegetable at this time.
To be honest with you, I would not try. I asked my nutritionist and he said that unless you really overcook it (which destroys the taste and texture that your head hunger remembers) you probably will reject it. Now if you go to foodnetwork.com you can get some other great irish dishes for st. pattys that are low carb, high protein and a bit easier to digest such as smoked salmon, poached eggs, turkey hash, things like that. Of course if you know you can digest beef already you might do OK. Make sure that the cabbage is cooked really well and cut into SMALL shreds not long ones! That way if you accidentally swallow some unchewed it will not tangle up in your intestines. KWIM?
Emeril Live had a great show in combination with Bobby Flay about Irish Pub Grub that is NOT corned beef and cabbage....LOL!

I cooked corned beef, cabbage, baby carrots and red potatoes in the crock pot all day yesterday and it was wonderful !!! I chewed the meat ALOT and put a small peice of cabbage in my mouth with it to keep it moist while I chewed and I tolerated it fine. Got a little gas of course and it helped my other problem (constipation) today. It was so worth it !

I chickened out!!!!!! I had a terrible day last Sunday when trying to eat broccoli for the first time(cooked and limp)! My husband told me NO to the corned beef and cabbage as he didn't want me to moan and groan all day. I'm glad it worked out for you. Next year, though, watch out! I'm likely to have a few green beers along with the corned beef and cabbage!
