I have had lettuce several times, usually iceberg lettuce, but have had others also without problems. The iceberg lettuce seems to have more water than the other lettuces. I just chew it up good and it sits well with no problems for me. I always eat the lettuce (salad) with chicken and eat all the chicken with only about 5 small bites of lettuce. I would be careful about dressings though. I do not use a dressing on my salads (didn't before surgery either), so it is not a problem for me. I was cleared for the lettuce by my nutritionist, so you certainly should OK it with your nutritionist as well, as we are all in different stages with the diet. Good luck. Sue R.

WOW guys, thank you for all your responses!! I can't believe how many surgery sisters I have out there!! You guys are all wonderful, what would we do without this wonderful tool for support! I still think I should wait a little longer to have salad, there has been so many things that don't agree and I find it hard to fit in and eat the protein I need to in any given day. I guess the last thing thing I want to do it fill up on something other then protein. I am down 36 lbs (as of 3/7/05) - I have to limit myself to weighing in once per week for fear of driving myself crazy!! So tomorrow is weigh in day again. Thanks guys! ~ Jen

Hi Jen , I've had Chicken ceasar salad, I take very small bites and chew very very well and so far each time my pouch does fine. This is one of my favorite meals so I'm a happy camper. take care, Syndi

I have not tried lettace yet but I have done cooked spinach. YUM! Last night I tried cabbage in the form of coleslaw and it was OK. I am still gonna wait another month before I start trying lattace though. I made the mistake of eating raw veggies the other day and that did not fair well. So I guess me and salads will have to wait! LOL! Hi Jen, Wow, I'm really impressed how well everyone is doing. Sorry dear, but I have not tried lettuce nor meat nor most other foods. I have problems swallowing with lots of nausea and some vomiting. (RNY 1/13/2005) I'm slowing moving into the full liquid diet, most protien shakes, water crystal light, decaf tea, once in a while I have a couple pf teaspoons of cottage cheese or yogurt. My motto is if you can eat it, it sits well, no side effects, go for it. Otherwise try again in a couple of weeks. Your body will let you know if its ready. BTW, I too love salads and can't wait until I can eat them Lil C

Wow! What a difference! I was on soft foods when I was sent home from the hospital..and regular food from 2 weeks on out. Are you sure you don't have a mild stricture? My hat is off to you..i could not have stood to be on clear liquids for 2 months..you must have lost a gazillion pounds already.... Hope things are better soon! Sher'
