Anyone tried Lettuce yet?
Hi Jen, we share a surgery date! congrats on your loss and a possitive journey thus far. I am down 38 and feeling absolutely wonderful! I had a few pieces, and I mean, like, 3?? of the super shredded lettuce (like what comes on a sub sandwich). My nephew had made a layered dip and I couldn't get all the lettuce off. It sat well, but was scary none the less. Preop, lettuce and raw veggies would torture me so bad I just wouldn't eat them. I am scared to try a salad. I'm afraid that I wouldn't get it 'pulverized' and a subsequent blockage. I have been nibbling green peppers, and have had some celery (very carefully 'skinned' and 'de-strung') and they taste sooooo fresh and good! I can just imaging how good lettuce would be.
OT: I read your profile about the nurses on the floor not being able to call themselves nurse. I was a nurses aide / med aide for 13 yrs. My mom is an RN. So we know what is 'apprpriate'. We were appalled at the SOME of the care and treatment I rec. There were a few 'nice ones' but my goodness....... Two things stick in my mind, one was whenever they emptied my drain, they never rinsed the cup, and then whenever they dealt with my cath bag, it was nothing for them to throw it on the floor and drag it around. And on the cath note, they didn't use a cath strap on my leg. I asked about that, fearing the blasted thing would get yanked out, and she said, 'well it is usually only in there overnight'. yeah, uh-huh......okay....mine was in for 3, due to my kidneys having a mind of there own.....
But anyway.........thanks for letting me vent!
Best of luck on your journey, and enjoy the lettuce when you get up the nerve

Sheila - - now that you mentioned it, I didn't have a leg strap for my catheter either. They kept taping the tube to my thigh and it would repeatedly fall off and pull.
I have to say though, for the most part the nurses in ICU were awesome. I was in the unit for the first 2½ days following my surgery. It was when I went to the floor that all the problems began. I can't even image a person immediately post-op being sent to a regular floor to be cared for - what a nightmare!
Best of luck to you!!

Hi Jen,
I have had the grilled chicken bacon ranch salad from McDonald's four different times so far and had no problem. I just cut up the salad and the chicken and took it nice and slow. I also bought some Kraft carbwell ranch salad dressing and used that on it and it was delicous and everything went fine. It is a little scary trying things for the first time. The first time I had baked fi****hrew up and that had never happened post op yet. I tryed it again two weeks later and it was great. I guess the first time the fish was a little to dry and I must not have eaten slow enough. I hope this has helped you and good luck with your first salad.
Take care

Hi Jennifer! We share the same surgery date!!! I had lap rny on January 10th.
I have been eating baby spinach salads with a dressing I make of Dijon mustard, extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I found the other lettuces to be not tender enough for my pouch. I even tried baby greens
but there are some that are still too tough. I think baby spinach probably is the best. I normally have some for at least one of my meals everyday.
I'm like you and love my salads.
How are you doing? I have lost 42 pounds so far. I am so glad that I made the choice to have this surgery.
Aloha, Pat
Hi Pat,
So far I have lost 36 lbs!! But Mondays are my weigh in days - so I hope to add to that tomorrow.
I finally feel as though I have more energy, which has taken almost the entire 2 months to feel that way.
And they best part of all - I finally weigh less than my husband - first time in years and years!! That was quite a WOW moment for me!!!
Best of luck Pat - -
