I read this email at just the right time. I am 6 weeks out, and haven't lost a pound in 10 days. I have been so depressed about it. I have uped my caloric intake advised by doctor so as to stay out of starvation mode, that didn't work. I cut back to 600 calories a day(including the calories from protein powders) and that didn't work. But as you stated, it can be slow, and we need to be patient. Now if nothing happens again the third week, I'll be needing another pep talk. Congratulations on your weight loss. I'm at 35 lbs and stuck! Dianne

Dianne Congratulations on your 35 lbs gone forever! On another board that I belong to, they advised me that when the weight loss slows down like this our bodies have gone into "hybernation" mode where it is holding on to everything that it can because it believes we are in danger and need it to. They didn't talk so much about increasing calories but did advise to increase the protein shakes and the water. My doctor only wants me to have 1 protein shake a day and only has 48 ounces of water as a requirement. The post ops on this board (many of which are several years post op) said that you need 2 to 3 shakes per day and at least 68 ounces of water.... I was able to do that this past week and lost a little over 3 lbs.... maybe they have figured out the secrets ....... Best of luck to you! Patty

Hi everyone! I am also in the same boat as everyone! I had my lap rny on January 10, 2005 and have so far lost 42 pounds. For the past almost 2 weeks I did not lose a single pound. I was so depressed, so I called my doctor and he assured me that I was doing fine. He told me that people who have had wls need to remember that muscle weighs more than fat. As our bodies are changing we may not see a change in the numbers on the scale, but as long as we see the change in our bodies and we are drinking our protein, taking our supplements, eating properly and getting our required exercise the weight loss will start picking up again. I felt so much better after he told me that. He also told me that it is very important that we eat our proteins first before eating anything else. This plays a big part in our continued weight loss. Success to all of us for taking this giant step to being healthy!!!! Aloha, Pat
