How much protein your body can absorb at one time? I know that I read about this before but I can't found the place now. Vanessa

Vanessa, I have read/heard that the body can't absorb more than 20 grams at a time. I don't know how accurate this is but that has been what I am going by. Kim

The number I've seen bantered about most often is 30 grams. However, if you google "protein metabolism 30 grams", you will find sites that state we cannot assimilate more than 30 grams at a time. You'll also find bodybuilding sites that insist the 30 gram "limit" is one of the myths about protein that they want to debunk.

The trainer at my gym insists that for normal people it is 30g but in competitive athletes (those who train like 6-7 days a week and put out like triple the calories that they put in type of folks) can metabolize a bit more than that. So both websites seem to be right if my trainer is correct in his training. He says that only the people who are doing SERIOUS exercise, weight lifting and such can metabolise more than 30g at a time. HTH!
