Feel like a freak
Hi guys,
I apologize that this will probably sound like whining....
I feel terrible. I am 6 weeks post op. I was good the first 3 weeks, then had a stricture that left me unable to eat anything and barely drink for 8 days until I had it dilated. Since then, the simple thought or mention of food gives me the dry heaves. I am only eating maybe once a day, and fluid intake is practically nothing (20 - 30 oz per day). I genuinely don't know where to turn.
I called my WLS DR's office the other day, and he is out of town at a convention. I let them know exactly what was going on, but I haven't heard back. I called the pysch therapist this morning but I haven't heard back.
I guess I have a mental aversion to food and fluids from getting so sick off of them with the stricture, but I need to overcome this. I don't know where to start. Needless to say I have NO energy, and feel bad all the time.
Thanks for listening and I appreciate any assistance.

So sorry to hear this Jezzie
But if they have corrected the problems, I guess if you just start back very slowing with liquids only, and applesause, yogurt sort of like we did the 1st week post op? Maybe little by little you will over come it.
What were your signs of trouble? The reason I ask is that starting Tuesday I began to feel nauseous and still feel this way. But I am not throwing up or anything like that. But I can sure say I have no desire to eat or drink due to this nausea? I keep worrying that I might have a stricture in the making...
Well,
It started that I vomited my dinner one night. I was sorta arguing with my daughter (trying to get her to eat) and thought maybe I had eaten too fast, etc. The next day I was ok with lunch, then vomited dinner again, but still didn't think it was anything too bad. Next day, I vomited water, and all food I ate. Next day vomited all food, and it was really violent. I only ate once that day and vomited 7 or 8 times. Then I was just on liquid but every time I took a sip, I felt like my stomach HURT from eating too much. Went on like that for a few days before I took it upon myself to call the GI. The nurse at my WLS surgeon's office was not helpful at all.
What you're having doesn't sound like stricture based on my experience. Also, I was told at a support groupt that the stictures pretty much develop within a matter of hours, I don't think it is a long time in the making.

Jezzie,
My concern for you is that if you don't start drinking water the way you should...you are going to get dehydrated..and maybe end up in the hospital again....and with the lack of protein you liikely could get into some serious muscle wasting....I hope you are getting your vitamins in...I agree with doing protein shakes and water and liquidy soft foods...you have to learn to trust your ability to eat again..and you also HAVE to let the Doc and nutritionist know of this trouble so that they can add professional advice.
