A Little Down
Hi Everyone,
I am one month post-op today. I have been reading the boards and I am a little discouraged that I haven't lost as much as most at this point. I know that I am not to compare myself with others but I feel like I should have lost more by now. I have only lost 24 lbs in a month. I feel like I don't eat enough to keep going, and I struggle to get my water in each day. I do walk each day and I do my gazelle. I joined Curves before surgery but am not to go until the end of March so that I don't hurt myself. Any suggestions on what else I can do to maybe loose more?
Julia, Don't worry about it, I am one day ahead of you and I have only lost 25 lbs. I am very excited to have lost that much. Did you measure all over before surgery? I did and it has helped me because I measured yesturday, on my 1month, and I had lost a total of 11 1/4 inches. You could be losing inches but not pounds. So maybe we are slow losers and I am okay with that because at least it is coming off.
I guess I don't have any suggestions except to keep doing what you are and don't worry so much about the numbers. Keep doing what your doctor has told you to do and you will be fine.
Keep up the good work!!

Hi All:
I understand the feeling. I was 19 pounds at 2 weeks, 22 pounds at 4 weeks and now I am at 24 pounds at 5 1/2 weeks.
I was told that I was not getting enough in. I was told 800 - 1000 cals, 70g protein and atleast 25g of fat.
I have increased my eating and now I'm doing a bit better. I haven't reached my food goals yet but it is better than 400 cals / 30g protein / 10g fat.
Thank God for this site, I know that I am not alone!
Best wished to you all!
Welcome to my world, and apparently from reading other replies, other people's world's too. I'm 5 weeks out and have lost 25 lbs. I'm taking in 50-60 grams of protein and try to get in 50 oz of water. I read my "state of Alabama's boards daily and so many people are having success with lots of protein, and lots of water, and swear by it. I bought a treadmill this weekend and it will be delivered next week. I have not exercised in two years, health problems, (you all can relate, joints, back, knees, fat etc) so I'll be lucky to walk 5 minutes. You hang in there, and maybe Curves and my treadmill will jumpstart things for us.

I am so glad that I'm not alone. I am about 7weeks out and have lost 34lbs. I was under the assumption that the more you needed to lose the more you would lose initially. My Dr told me that I was right on target, and that he would be concerned if I has lost a huge amount of weight already because it would indicate to him that I wasn't healthy...not getting fluids and nutrients. He also told me that it is only natural to have doubts because nothing else has worked before. He said initial weight loss is due to surgery and now that our bodies are almost healed the REAL weight loss will begin. It did put my mind at ease that he believed I was on target, but let's face it we are instant gratification kinda people and we want to see results. Its natural and expected. We just have to keep our chins up, do what we are supposed to do, and be there for one another.

I posted around the 15th of Feb that I was on a plateau already. I amd 4 wks and 5 days post op and I finally lost a few more lbs as of this a.m. Total 29 so far, and I also hopped to loose at least 1 lb per day for the 1st month. Well it did not happen. My BMI was 55 when I started and you figure you will loose a lot the 1st month because you have so much to loose. But it seems that 50% loose really fast, and the rest are like us. Women anyway. Lord knows we cannot put the men in the same group. They tend to loose really fast.
Keep doing what you are doing. I have the same problems with water, and I am tired, etc.. As long as we loose something each month I guess that is the important thing. In 6mos time we will really see some results.

Hey do not worry about it we are all in the same boat together. I will be six weeks out tuesday, and have only lost 27lbs.I always have this feeling that I am a slow loser but guess not. now I see we are all in the same boat. I started out at 247ish now im 220ish. how much did everyone here start out at?
As you can see you are not alone! We all loose at different rates. Just remember these few things:
1. PROTEIN! Get in the amount your doctor tells you that you need. Get createwith protein powder, non-fat powdered milk, peanut butter, anythign that you can add to a recipe to get in that extra UMPH!
2. WATER! You have to keep up with your fluids. Aim for 64 oz but if you land in the high 40 - 50's and you have no signs of dehydration then you are doing good. Just keep striving for more.
3. MEASURE! Muscle weighs more than fat! Take your measurments, that is where you will see the big changes!
Keep up the good work and you will do fine. Trust me, you will hit a plateu and then one day you will wake up short a handful of pounds. That is what happened to me.
The weeks that I get in 800-1000 calories a day and get in at least 50 of water and 70 of protein are the weeks I loose the biggest!
HTH!
Brightest Blessings for a Wonderful Day~
