Has anyone been told how often and what type of bowel movement is considered normal? I think I've had it all and when I ask the dr, he said we are in an adjustment period. What's that mean????? Thanks, Syndi

Syndi, I'm not sure what is "normal", but there is no rhyme or reason to my bowel movements. I haven't gone since Tue. but last weekend it was just diarrea. I take 2 Senakot-2 every night but it doesn't seem to help. Anxious to see the replies you get. Pat 348/311

Well, no one told me what normal would be either. I had diarrhea the first few days after I got home, but now have settled into a pattern of every other day. Not much of course, but it's workimng for me. Hugs! Jacqui

I was told that if I go at least once a day it is considered normal but that some people may do it every other day or so. In the beginning I was very constipated and didn't go for about 10 days. I found out this was due to the pain meds and was told to drink 1 dose of milk of magnesia followed by water (as much as I could tolerate). It took another 2 days before I went. The first pass was very hard but as I got off the pain meds I became more regular. Check in with your doctor if you still have problems passing. Also, our bodies are adjusting from anesthesia, meds, extra vitamins and experimenting different foods.

I am about at once every three days. ... and it is worse than giving birth! I have been taking stool softeners but it isn't helping much. I got some MilkOMag but haven't tried it ... I haven't been on pain pills since 1 week post so I don't know what it is. My best guess is no volume on food and very little fat or fiber ...?? Good luck!

I really haven't had a problem. I eat 2 sugar free candies and that is enough to make me have a BM. I keep track of my BMs in my food diary. I usally go once every two days. You do need to make sure that you go. You can have health problems if you don't go every few days.

My surgeon told me that in the begining it would be once every few days and as my intake became more solid it would speed up the BM frequency and by the time I moved to solids I should be at once a day or every other day. Mine are always so nasty tho.... "wall compound" is a good discription....LOL! And boy do they STINK! My son is always saying "who died in here?" Mom you are a stinky bomb! (He is six.)
