We went to Red Lobster for my birthday and Lobsterfest. I ordered the Lobster Bisque soup. So far, so good. They seated us in the smoking section. I am an ex smoker for 15 years and ever since surgery my sense of smell has been intensified. I had to get up three times to go outside for fresh air. Then, I thought (Stupidly!) that drinking something cold would make me feel better. I didn't go completely nuts and order a mixed drink, but I got a virgin pina colada. I had been craving coconut and pineapple for weeks. BIIIIIIGGGGGG Mistake!! Three or four sips of that sugary drink and I was on the floor. "THIS is dumping"I thought. I had shakes, chills, naseau, and could not even eat my soup. I am so hard headed! I knew what would happen, but I had to try! Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa,Mea Maxima Culpa! Forgive my sin! I am sitting at my desk now with a cold washcloth at my face, and my intestines are struggling with my mistake. I need a remedy for this upset stomach. PLEASE!!!!!! HELP!!!!!! Lou Ann

Lou Ann, I am sorry that you are feeling so bad! I have not had dumping...(yet). I wish I had some advice that could help you feel better. I will pray that you feel better soon....Oh, and please don't beat yourself up too much for cheating...We all have to learn what we can tolerate and what we can't. Hugs...Lanie

Lou Ann, Sorry you had the dumping at Red Lobster. I hope you are feeling better now. I also "cheated" on Valentine's Day at Red Lobster. I had a few bites of the cheddar bay biscuits. It did not bother me, but I still felt guilty about eating just a few bites. Was really good though. Sue R.

Lou Ann I thought you said you were only a few days before me post op. You seem to be taking more chances than I am, and still loosing much better I might add. See I am a chicken and I do not want to dump. So I have taken great risks yet. If I want to try something I think might be an issue, like a different yogurt with higer sugar content, I just try a teaspoon then put it away for 30 mins to see if it causes any problems. know every doctor is different, but I believe I was and am suppose to wait to be 6 wks min post op before I try more elaborate stuff like even chicken. I do not think there is anything for dumping that will make you feel better, it just has to run it course. So sorry you are feeling ill, but it will pass and then you will remember how awful it was and don't cheat again!

I am in my 5th week now, and Weds. will start my 6th week. I am allowed to eat soft, well chewed meats like roasted chicken (no skins), sauteed shrimp, and broiled fish(no skins). These foods go down well IF I EAT SLOW. Which I have real trouble doing. It seems artificial and unnatural to me to eat a bite, put down my fork and wait 2 min. What do I do then? Stare at the wall?! Very weird! If I could drink in between, that would help, but no.....can't do that either. And everything smells sooooo strong! Water even makes me naseaus. Oh, well..... Lou Ann

Yeah, I have to read, work on homework, work on the computer or watch TV when I eat otherwise I eat too fast. Thankfully I got myself into the habit of chewing the heck out of my food before surgery so now it comes second nature. Jamie

Unfortunatly, the only thing you can do for dumping related to sugar is ride it out. It is caused by the sugar rushing into your intestines, causing your body to rush water to the intestines to dilute it out, which causes your BP to drop very low and then your pancreas rushes insulin to your intestines to compensate for the sugar. It is like a "diabetic emergency" in nature. IT SUCKS! Brightest Blessings for a Wonderful Day~ Jamie M. I have been too afraid to try anything like a virgin pina coloda!! I went to Red Lobster last week (the first time I went out to dinner since surgery) and I only had the crab legs!! (They were delicious . . and didn't bother me!!) Next time your craving coconut & pineapple, may I suggest adding coconut extract and a few pieces of pineapple to a vanilla protein shake?? Good Luck!!! Denise
