Trouble keeping anything down!

Hi All, I am almost 4 weeks post op, and for the past few days I can't seem to keep anything down. I seem to vomit after almost everything. Here's a recap: Today- water (vomited), chicken salad (was ok), shrimp (vomited), sf popsicles (vomited), french onion soup (vomited), yogurt (was ok) Yesterday- water (vomited), same chicken salad (was ok), grilled chicken (vomited) The only thing I've been ok with is yogurt and the chicken salad, which was heavy on the mayo, and very shredded (almost like tuna salad) I feel like any time I eat real food (not soft foods) I lose it, but then again it's also happening with water and popsicles. I don't get sick every time I drink water, but it is happening. Even when I don't get sick, I still get air trapped in my "chest" after drinking water which is very painful. I am only eating things I should (protein), small bites, chewing to death, and not overeating portion sizes. Tonight I got sick after a single bite of the shrimp. Any input or suggestions? -Jezz

Hi Jezz, Are you waiting at least a half hour after drinking to eat and at least a hour after eating to drink? Sometimes I wait two hours after I eat to drink. Sometimes I wait too long to eat and I think I eat too fast. I am also 4wks out(1/18/05) and I can't eat chicken salad because I think it's still too heavy. I can't even eat eggs without getting very sick. Hope your feeling better soon. Good luck, Syndi

Hi Jezz, I have been so nauseated for the past week or so that I haven't eaten any solids. Water, tea, and some oj are the liquids that I have been drinking. When I contacted my surgeon's office they decided that I should have an endoscopy to see if there is a stricture (scar tissue that blocks the opening from the stomach) or an ulcer. Not sure why so many of us get so sick like this. I am now back to taking Nexium everyday and that seems to be helping so far. Good luck to you, Tammy

Thanks for the input guys. Yes- I am following the rules on waiting to have liquids before and after eating. It's so hard to adjust, and each doctor seems to have different rules. Some people mention eating mashed potatoes, pudding, oj...all of which are a no-no from my dr. Thanks again for the responses. I'm so afraid of getting sick I've only had about 10 oz of water today and nothing else. Hope it gets better....I'm really struggling to stay positive. --J

Hey Jezz, I know first hand that the mashed potatos and jello with extra protein powder will make you feel better. If I'm having a bad day then I eat these two and just add some protein powder so that I can get some protein into my body. Hope your feeling better real soon. Take care, Syndi

I am also 4 weeks post-op and have been going through the same thing the past week. I am so frustrated. I have followed all the rules so I dont understand. I havent eaten anything remotely solid I still eat mushy stuff. Today I ate baby cereal and that was okay. Boy was it nice to not throw up. I am at my wits end!
