Hello Everyone, I have a question for those of you who had the same medical practice I had. I am 3 1/2 weeks out. Do you have a certain amount of time you take between each (puree) bite? Is there a certain amount of time we are suppose to wait between bites? Thanks in advance!!! Becky P.

I have Smart Dimensions (Dr. LePort). This wasn't discussed in the dietary meeting but when I called the surgeon's office for another unrelated question they asked about my pureed foods and told me to take at least a half hour to eat 4 oz. of pureed/soft foods. I know when we go to solids it goes up to 45 minutes or so. I no longer measure with the 1 oz. cups but eyeball it in my 4 oz. containers. I can eat 4 oz. of liquids (such as liquidy soup) in 20 minutes but the pureed/soft I eat slower. The only thing I have on my dietary handout is not to drink more than 1 oz. of liquids per 5 minutes, but honestly I can drink water faster than that even though they say not to - if I didn't I wouldn't get all my liquids in!

Elaine, I had Smart Dimensions as well but I had Dr. Ali. When I went to my 2 week check up the PA told me that 1/2 cup, which is 4 oz., should take me 30 minutes to eat in the puree stage. Then he said that once I hit 6 weeks then it should take me 1 hour to take in 1/2 cup because it is solids. I think the hand outs they give us should be more detailed about time lines of how long to wait in between bites on purees and solids. I am doing okay with drinking only 1 oz every five minutes. I get in between 64-70oz of water everyday, plus 2 protein shakes and now some puree foods. During the first three weeks I also had some tomato soup, light yogurt, crystal light and sugar free popsicles. Right now refried beans are so great! They go down so easy and they have alot of protein. Thanks for responding!! Becky

Hey Becky I was told the same thing at my 2 week...to increase pureed to 1/2 cup and eat in 1/2 hour...it's hard to eat that slow...but I agree with the refried beans - they are so yummy! Of course right now I am not eating again - I came down with either a bacterial or viral infection in my lower intestines...I was put back on a clear liquid diet for 48 hours! MMMMMM. I am going to try going back on my protein shakes today, because I feel so week. I was dehydrated and they had me in the hospital/ER friday until 5:30 giving IV fluids...I am slowly feeling better. I should find out tomorrow wether or not it is bacterial and if I go an antibiotics... Keep me in your prayers... LauraG
