Please help...stitches coming out of my incision

Hi all, Tomorrow I will be 3 weeks post-op. My staples were removed 2 weeks ago and my incision seems to be healing just fine. Yesterday I noticed little black things coming out of the incision. They appear to be stitches. We've counted 9. I called my PCP and am going to the Dr tomorrow, but wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this. Very worried with all the problems I've had since surgery. Any advice or information would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help. Lisa

Hi Lisa, My doctor told me that this may happen and that it was totally normal if they poke through the skin but mine didn't. Hopefully yours are fine. Good luck tomorrow. Take care

Well my PCP was a little taken aback by the number of stitches that were creeping through my incision. With the exception of 1, they were just the end flaps of the suture tied in a knot, kind of like when you tie a bow and the 2 ends are hanging. He would slightly pull them out and then clip them off. He said the rest will get sucked back in and will eventually dissolve. The very first suture, up by my bra, was actually a loose knot that started an infection. He pulled out the entire suture and I am now left with a 4mm hole which is approximately the size of 1/2 of a q-tip head. He gave me a prescription for a cream that will keep it cleaned out while it is filling back in. I am going to go see him in 10 days to make sure it hasn't created a larger infection. But overall he wasn't too concerned about it. He was previously a surgeon and said that this type of thing does happen occasionally, but he had never seen 9. Leave it to me! Well, I am five weeks post op and when I looked at my stitches three weeks ago, there was a black thing coming out. Next thing I know, i am looking at a hole inside of me the size of a penny, And there was a bunch of white stuff. I went to the local hospital and they showed me how to keep it clean then I would be fine. I reccomend you see your surgeon if this would happen to you at all. I am now closed up. But when in doubt, check it out. huuuugssss

Did they give you an antibiotic? I had that happen with a surgery I had before and it was a staff infection. I didn't have a fever it just busted open and white stuff came right out. When the stuff came out it had an odor too. Be careful, Syndi
