I am sitting down to write this 10 minutes after upchucking for the first time. I hope this will help other post ops ( or preops)to avoid my mistakes. 1. Do not try and talk and eat at the same time. Distractions will cause you to forget to eat SLOW!!! 2. Do not argue with family at the table. Stay calm and relaxed. Fight with husband and children one hour after meals. The symptoms: Feels like a fist stuck in between your breasts. Strange bubbling sounds in your throat. Chronic need to swallow, swallow, swallow. Saliva begins to bubble out of mouth. Belching HURTS!! (Get close to the porceline throne with: a wet wash rag, a cup with a splash of mouthwash, and a pillow for your knees( you are going to be down there a LOOONG time.) Go ahead and let it come up. It helps the pain. It won't be much. Then wipe mouth with wet rag, and rinse(DON"T SWALLOW) mouthwash. This will help kill the bad taste that can set you off again. Afterwards, sit or stand for at least an hour. If you lay down YOU WILL PAY!!! I was afraid to vomit. I thought I would die or something. It isn't as bad vomiting as it was with a big tummy(only a couple off tablespoons came up)but the PAIN feels like a heart attack. : ' ( O.K., that's it. Now, go and eat slow and DON"T do what I did! Same thing happened to me several times. Your right, I was on the phone once and correcting my boys the other times. Now I try to just stay focused on eating slowly and chewing a lot!

I have found that vomiting post-op (well at least 3 weeks out) is not as bad as it used to be pre-op. (Now I am not talking dumping with vomiting.... I am talking just vomiting) For me I used to be a full body projectile vomiter. I used to wretch with my whole body, like a dog. Afterwards I would be physically drained and little blood vessels in my skin and eyes would burst and I would look like I had chicken pox for weeks. It sucked so BAD! Plus I would have to worship the Porcelain God. I could not anywhere but the toliet. These days I just stand over the sink and it just flows out in small amounts. No wretching, no exhaustion, no popped blood vessels. It is so much more of a releif these days...with exception to the lingering nausea afterwards. Weird huh? Jamie Isn't it funny how we can talk about this kind of ka-ka and no one thinks we are horrible people for it?! LOL!

Jamie, I really have to meet you in person someday! You and I think a lot alike. (Now there's a scarey thought!) Lou Ann

How close are you to Fort Sam Houston? My hubby is due to go to a military school there for a few months and I am thinking about going with him or at least visiting him there for his graduation! I think he is supposed to go from June to July or something like that! Jamie PS- I had SOS (Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast) today and it tasted so darn good to have some good old food from my childhood! (However the toast was melba toast....LOL!)

Is Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio? I am about 4 hours away, but we would make a special trip to meet YOU! The only person on the planet who admits to liking SOS!!!! Let me know for sure when and then we can figure out where to meet. I have only tried toast once. One bite. OUCH! I am craving my favorite comfort food; artichoke, parmisian, garlic spread on toasted french bread. YUM!!!! also Pickles, big fat kosher dills!!

YUM! That sounds delicious. Yeah, we will have to set a date when it gets closer to summer! I have had relish so I am sure I can have pickles soon. I bet soon you will be able to have your yummy spread on melba toast. Jamie

Also had my first experience. you are so right about distractions. All of a sudden I found myself not focusing on chewing and had that horrible socked in the chest feeling. as soon as I I felt 1000% better. Oh no I hope that this does not become a pattern. Coni P.

I started vomiting once I started on semi-solid foods. The each time has been because I at too much. The second time I vomited I burst a blood vessel in my left eye. The funny thing is that vomiting is not much as a horrible experience as before. I recover pretty quickly from each episode and I don't have that nasty aftertaste, but I still hate doing it. -Jonathan
