could this be a complication?
Hi alll
I am wondering if anyone else has had this a a complication? I woke up this morning and the right side of my face was paralized. I went to my GP and was told that it is Bells Palsy. It seems to be really mild and more of a inconvience right now. (I teach and the kids were concerned). She really didn't know if the stress of the surgery contributed to it or not.

Wow! A friend of mine had Bell's Palsy on the right side of her face about 10 years ago after a routine dental surgery for wisdom teeth extraction. It lasted about a month then gradually faded away. She is fine and has had no trouble since. A teacher at our school had it after a C-section surgery. Hers was severe, and lasted almost 9 months. But eventually it too went away. Some people think it is a anesthesia complication, but I am unsure if this had been researched or not. Check online.
Good Luck!
Coni, this is usually common after having a virus. Were you recently sick? It affects the facial nerve and is noted by a drooping eye lid and lower lip. The good news is that it is temporary. Dental treatment can cause something similar called parasthesia (partial numbness that can last a very long time). They are two entirely different things. Bells Palsey is definitely virus related. As a dental hygienist, I have seen both of these problems at times. Just try to relax and know that it will go away.

Coni, I had Bell's Palsy on the right side of my face 5 years ago. They can only speculate as to what causes it. They don't really know. It affects the major muscle in your neck and face. Mine could have been from a previous surgery or just stress. there is a med you should be taking though. And exercise your face. scrunch yours eyes closed, practise whistling, makes big smiles and show your teeth!. This may seem funny but it actually helps to restore some of the muscle tone in your face. I recovered about 90%. Trust me it will help.
