So many people have told me that they have never experienced dumping syndrome( myself included) that I am getting paranoid and wondering if it is all a part of a doctor's conspiracy to make us eat the way they say. Anyone out there actually experienced " first hand" the dread "dumping syndrome"? Lou Ann

I have had minor cases of it. Nothing as bad as I have expected, but then I am not eating solids yet. Jenn

Ohhhh yes! Been there and done that! I ate some chicken salad that did not agree with me and within four hours I was spending three hours in the bathroom with severe stomach pain and vomiting. Another time, I was eating a turkey and cheese roll, completely unaware of what I was doing...ate two large bites and gulped it down. Immediately I felt the consequences. Luckily my dietician gave me an antedote of Adolph's tenderizer, lemon juice and water. After sipping on that for 20 minutes I began to feel a lot better. I hope you don't have to ever experience it, but if you do, I can almost guarantee, you won't want to have another one. YOu must be doing everything right so far. That is GREAT! Keep up the good work. I am one who has to learn from my mistakes and I'm not ashamed to admit I have already made a few. I have learned that my doctor is right when he says to follow his plan!

Hi Charlene!!! How is my fellow surgery date person doing?? I have been wondering how things were going with you, I haven't seen you post as much as you were before, but then again I haven't been on this board much myself, I have gotten addicted to the main message board, trying to see what I am in store for with all of those long term post-ops!! LOL I hope everything is going well for you!!

Oh yes I experienced it and it was not good! I forgot abou****ering down juices and I took a small sip of straight apple juice, about a ten minutes later I thought I was having a heart attack!! Please know dumping is for real and stay FAR FAR away from it if you can!!! LOL

I have had a few minor cases of "dumping" off of drinking too much liquid, too fast, in too big of sips. I got the nausia feeling with yacking up nothing but foam. The ONE serious "dump" I had caused my heart to race so fast that hubby actually got worried and threw his pulse ox on me and my HR was over 120 (normal for adult 60 - 90... mine is typically around 65 or 70). The pain was UNREAL and I thought I was gonna die. And no matter what I did, I could not get it to come "back up" . It sucked so bad, it took almost 20 minutes to pass. All because while I was eating I took two sips of hubby's tea (not realizing it was that lipton brisk crap.... FULL OF SUGAR!). Everyone is different though. My friend De has not had any dumping, she has been lucky... or not so lucky, depending on how you look at it. She can have any amount of sugar that she wants and it does not make her sick, and now she knows it and can "cheat" without worrying about consequences (other than weight gain). So it is easier for her to fall into old habits. HTH! Jamie

It's real! It was the worst experience I can say I've ever had. After a protein shake; at first I started feeling clammy, and dizzy. From there I started shaking uncontrollably and then and all over yukey feeling and my mouth started salivating. From then on it was me and my toilet bowl. On empty you heave and foam at the mouth. I did this for hours only to being awakened needing to heave. IT REALLY HURT! It took a while for me to be convinced to put something in my mouth again after that. The day before drinking water too fast similar experience, but not as bad, but not as good either as the above. BE WARNED!! I truly don't believe it will happen to everyone, since everyone's system is so different; consider yourself lucky if you don't ever do it. IT'S SOMETHING YOU WILL NEVER FORGET!!

Over 40 per cent of WLS patients will not dump..and that's the facts...it is NOT universal...and that is from the mouth of my surgeon. Sher'
