I love to watch the food network. Although it can cause head cravings, I get good ideas for low carb, high protein dishes. Anyone else a fan of the Iron Chef? Allez Cuisine!!! Lou Ann

I LOVE FOOD NETWORK, I AM A TOTAL ADDICT! LOL! I actually got some great ideas off of a show the other day for food we can do! Like mini-grilled cheese using the small "party bread" (we have a low carb variety at our store) substituting LF Mayo instead of butter on the outside slices, and using any kind of cheese in the middle and instead of pan frying it, you bake it to a crisp! And they served these shot glasses full of this high protein tomato soup along side of it, it was so cute and the perfect eating size for us! Speaking of eating ideas... I have two books that I love.. one is "Before & After" and it has some good recipies in it. The other is "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery" and is is completely a cookbook and on the side of each recipie you can see a listing of how you should serve it to patients of specific WLS at their various stages of diet. For example, it lists RNY 1-4 weeks and then RNY 5+ weeks, Gastric Banding 1-6 weeks, stuff like that and then it lists if you should serve as is, blend it, or whatever. IT SO ROCKS! HTH! Jamie

Ah, we have mu*****ommon! Allow me to share two recipes with you. The first is for stage 2. It is a delicious salmon pate. Steam one salmon fillet with fresh tarragon, 1/2 cup finely chopped onion and garlic (to taste). Remove skin. Combine in blender with: pinch of salt, dash of tabasco sauce, dash of worchestershire sauce, and 1/2 cup low fat, plain yoghurt. Puree. Put in plastic wrap lined bowl. Chill for one hour. Yum! Also great for parties with crackers. The second is a stage 3 recipe. Vuelva al la Vida! Or Mexican Seafood ****tail a la the border. 1 tall ice cream shake glass 1 can of fresh, raw oysters 1/2 dozen cold boiled cooked shrimp(peeled) 1/2 cup finely chopped onion and cilantro(fresh) 1/2 cup Low carb/no sugar ****tail sauce A dash of tabasco and worchestershire if you like 1/2 avocado chopped You can add a few jalepenos if you like. I like mine plain. Mix it all together and spoon into tall glasses . Chill one hour and serve with lime garnish. Lots of protein! Makes a complete meal for one! Good with saltines!

Mmmm... sounds yummy! This is something I created this morning for breakfast! Items: 1 MISSION Low Carb soft taco sized tortilla 1 oz. Homemade guacamole 1 3.5 oz pkg CHICKEN OF THE SEA, Premium shrimp, rinsed and drained 2 TB Taco Bell Chunky Garden Salsa 2 TB Breakstone's LF Sour Cream 3 TB Shreaded LF Mexican 4 cheese Blend Spices to cook with: Adobo, Sazon, Onion Powder, Cheyenne In a small frying pan combine shrimp, salsa and your choice of spices (I used Adobo, Sazon, Onion Powder, Cheyenne), cook for less than a minute just to warm mixture, then set aside. Rinse frying pan and spray with a light coating of non-stick spray and toss in 1 tortilla and lightly brown on one side. Once lightly crispy, flip over. Now sprinkle cheese on top of tortilla with the shrimp mixture and allow the cheese to melt, by now the tortilla should be cripsy. Plate tortilla and spread the guacamole and sour cream on top. Cut into four sections and enjoy! Right now I can only eat 1/4 at a time. According to my FitDay software this dish has 23 g protein whole so divide by 2 or 4 depending on how much you can eat at once. LOL! Oh it is just under 315 cal for a whole one. I split this dish with hubby since he is trying to follow my eating behavior. I make a dish that I can eat a quarter of and he eats the other 3/4. It works out since he is an active duty soldier and needs to eat healthy! LOL! Jamie

My doc says that I can have anything that is "cripsy" and dry, that is why you have to cook the tortilla to a crisp. Tortilla chips like the Tostitoes Edge ones, dissolve in water so it is OK to have once you are in the "soft and cripsy" stage. See this is why there is so much confusion b/c each doctor and "phase diet" is different. It is so weird! Today I saw a 5 and a 6 stage diet! From my hospital: Phase 1 clear liquids (pre-op until discharge post-op) Phase 2 full bodied liquids (moved off this at my 1 1/2 week appt.) Phase 3 soft, mushy & crunchy (stay on this from wk 2 until week 4/5 appt.) Phase 4 normal diet, portion restricted Personally I am doing fine on crispy and soft. Jamie

Nope, not in the least bit! I have not had any problems with food, it's been swallowing too much fluid at once that has been my problem! Jamie

My Doc keeps us on liquid protein 70gm/Carbs 30gms (in liquids) for 2 weeks preop and 3 weeks post. I had my surgery on 1/25 and am not able to eat real food other than jell-o even 11 days post op. He is very conservative and has very few complications with surgeries but... I am getting really board. I have found all kinds of ways to use Unjury nonflavored protein powder. Man, I wish I could eat more but I am determined to follow directions and not mess this up. It is very interesting to see what others do. I can't wait to eat real food!!! Good for you girl! That is my reasoning as well. I am following what my surgeon and nutritionist want me to do even though it seems contridictory to other hospitals. I just take it one bite at a time and I am trying to be more "aware" of what my own body is telling me. LOL! Jamie
