I cheated and it was great! But now I am guilty and ashamed!

I cheated last night. My friend came over to visit and we sat at the kitchen table while my 3 year old finished her dinner of fish sticks and peas. Daughter left the table to watch cartoons, while we stayed chatting. Suddenly, I realized that I wanted to taste her fish stick(baked). So I had a tiny nibble and chewed until it disappeared. I waited about 5 minutes( still talking with friend). When tummy did not revolt, I allowed it another bite. Well,.....one thing led to another, and before I knew it, I had eaten 2 entire fishsticks in a half hour! No pain, nothing. I am a former catholic, so I really feel the need to confess and receive penance (or gas pain). Anyone else out there who has cheated and gotten away with it? It doesn't feel good. Still losing weight, though not as fast as the first two weeks. Lou Ann

Okay, okay - time to fess up. I had chicken nuggets from Chick-fil-a. My tummy didn't have any trouble with them either. It felt like a little slice of heaven! But...I know that if I start back eating like that now (even if it's only 3 instead of 12), I'll slow myself down. It's way too early for that. I have to be good. Amanda 266/240/healthy

I just came across this message board today and boy can I relate. I had RYN Gastric Bypass on 1-4-05 and have lost 36 lbs. so far. I feel good about that but I struggle with the food more than I thought I would. I went to the movies this afternoon and brought an Atkins protien bar to snack on and then found a Momentum bar in my purse so of course I ate that to. I had bought the kids popcorn, candy and soda. After my two bars were gone I ate about one cup of the popcorn. What the hell is wrong with me !! Why did I do such a stupid thing as that. I feel so dissappointed with myself I am so glad that I have the boards to come to and now that I know about this one I am sure I will be useing it again. I have never had any "dumping" or any vomiting so I guess that is good or who knows maybe it's bad I guess if popcorn is the worst thing that I have eaten post op (and it is) than maybe I will be OK. Thanks for letting me vent. Love and Peace Anne B

OK, you have repented! LOL! Doesn't it suck when you do something "mindless" like that. The other day I was talking on the cell with my sister and before I knew it hubby was smaking my hand becuase I was going for a third popsicle (creamsicle SF kind). I mindlessly eat all of the time (pre-op) so now I am more dilegent about not having any temptation in the house. I have not ventured to the movies yet, but I know it will be hard for me not to eat the popcorn (I LOVE POPCORN). I think perhaps the first few times I should make sure my family has eaten a meal right before so that they won't feel the need to have any popcorn. They have been so understanding! Jamie

HI. I WENT TO THE MOVIES ABOUT A MONTH AFTER MY SURGERY AND TO MY SURPRISE (AND DISGUST BECAUSE I DIDN'T THINK I'D BE ABLE TO) I CAN EAT A SMALL ORDER OF NACHOS W/CHEESE. I CHEW THEM REALLY WELL AND THEY GO DOWN WONDERFULLY. SO, NOW SINCE I KNOW I CAN, WHEN I TOOK MY DAUGHTER TO THE MOVIES AGAIN LAST WEEK I HAD ANOTHER ORDER OF THEM. IT KINDA SUCKS... SUE

Well here is an idea for you.... do you have one of those WLS Patient ID cards that is signed by your doctor? If you do, use that and talk with the manager of the movies you go to... let them know that you are a gastric bypass patient and that nothing they serve you can have to eat or drink. Ask them if they would allow you to "bring your own." I mean heck, if you want to eat nachos then at least make it worth it by bringing your own Edge Tostitos and LF Cheese! LOL! Or some other snack food that you can make at home and bring with you. Have you logged into Food network.com yet? Check out "Low Carb and Lov'in it" and "Calorie Commando" for lots of great snacks you can make and eat as a WLS patient! HTH! Jamie
