5 days PostOp
I feel great, I was attacked this am by 6-8 small spoons of oatmeal and almost threw in the towel, ROFLMAO. But they soon did surrender, and I am back up walking and doing great!!! Between my consult 01/04 and my surgery 01/27 I lost 12lbs by just cutting out sodas, and caffine, and drinking more water! Things are going well...

I am surprised you were advised to eat oatmeal 5 days out. I am 7 days out and I cannot eat oatmeal for another 7 days. It is part of my phase 2 eating program. I am currently eating things like, cottage cheese, yogurt, soups (blenderized), SF poppicles, and applesauce. Plus protein drinks twice a day. Maybe you are trying to eat to heavy of food too soon.
Glad all else is going well for you.
I am 8 days postop and my Dr. has his postops on liquids for two weeks prior to surgery and three weeks after. Protein shakes, jellow, pops, water, crystal light, broth etc.... should make you feel better...at least I am not hungry like I was preop..don't even care to eat...miss it all together. Maybe it will be different after I start back on real food. We'll see.
That is part of the problem of this surgery, each surgeon or treatment center is SOOOO different with the "phases" and how soon you can advance and all that jive.
My surgeon had me on clear liquids 1 week before and a few days after. At discharge I was advanced to phase 2 (full bodies liquids) At my one week appt. he told me to advance to phase 3 (soft and cripsy) and then he deployed. Before he left he told me that at 4-5 weks I will probably be ready to advance to phase 4 (normal diet).
Seems fast to most people and it conflicts with some literature. But so far, I have had little problems with my diet. Weird huh?
If you are hungry... have you tried to add flavorless protein to your liquids yet? Maybe it will help to keep you full? If oatmeal was too much, why not try something a bit smoother like instant mashed taters with FF butter and LF milk. It is relatively bland and easy to digest. I have even added babyfood to "flavor" my potatoes, like sweet potato.
HTH!

Hey T hickman, We had our surgery on the same day. However I feel it rather strange that you would consider oatmeal this early out. My nutritritionist says that I cant go so my Phase 3 until and that is my puree and blenderized diets. And besides oatmeal doesnt give you any protein amount. Just be careful, Good Luck and Best Wishes

I feel okay I guess, I am 7 days post op and starting to get really depressed. I have another week of liquids and then I start the 3rd week on pureed foods. Just being cooped up in the house has been the worst for me. Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be better so I am hoping to get some more walking in. Walking in the house is just not sufficient enough for me..
