I feel like I am eating better now than I was preop in some weird ways..and you GO GIRL with that gourmet chef you got there! I gotta tell you..those refried beans are GREAT..I bought the Taco Bell brand at the grocery store...advocado has fats but they are the GOOD fats...so good for you on the quacomole! I am eating better but getting full on much less...I think getting my head in line with my body might be the problem....still makes me nervous that i don't feel full faster!!! Oh Well!! C'est La Vie! Sher, Girl, we ain't supposed to be suffering!!!!That was BEFORE the surgery. No more taunts, ugly looks, wise cracks, inane advise that is supposed to be helpful. No more getting stuck in chairs, airplane seats, and cars. No more leg cramps, heel spurs, and diabetes. No more apologizing to my kids for not being able to play with them because Mommy's out of breath. We are through suffering!!!!!! In the hospital, as they wheeled me into the surgery, ( I was feeling pretty good on the pre meds.) I was singing ( I am a musician). The nurses were chuckling because I sang" Hi ho' Hi ho, it's off to a new life I go." I also sang "Just a few more hours for to tote the weary load". while waiting in the hall. I don't get full very fast, either. We will see. You have a very pretty picture, Sher. Mine is not posted yet. : ( Lou Ann

I was sent home on full liquids after I was 5 dyas post-op. Perhaps when you go back in to get your staples out they will advance your diet. I am only 11 days post op and I am already on mushy/crunchy. HTH! Jamie

Girl, Taco Bell's refried beans are so full of fat! Go to the grocery store and get the Old El Pas FF or vegetarian refried beans! You can heat them up and add anything to them... I personally add onion powder, a bit of lime juice and LF chedder cheese to them and eat them with those new EDGE tostitos and wow.. it is over 20g of protein! And tastes great! If you want to thin them out, use 1% lactaid! HTH! Brightest Blessings for a Wonderful Day~ Jamie M. Actually, TACO BELL's pintos n' cheese are not that bad, considering "I" can only take about 3-4 small bites and get full. Here's the nutri info: Cals 180 Fat 7 Saturated Fat 3.5 Protein 10 Carbs 20 Sugars 1 That's what I got off the website... I eat them about 4xs a week...putting xtra mild sauce makes them more runny if you mash them up well and heat them it turns out like a soup consistency... Beth -37 and shrinking

Wow, Sher! You got to go home on soft foods? I guess I'm in for the 2-week starvation liquid diet... Last night, I had a small tearful moment thinking the same thing - that it would be exactly my luck for this to fail. After all, everything else has failed up til now, even drastic things like Optifast. But I have to say that it does help finding out that there are other people who are actually feeling hungry right after this surgery. All I'd heard was that so many people never felt hungry again and only ate because they knew they had to. I was really looking forward to that. I'm sure you don't have a "botched surgery"!, but it'll be interesting to hear what your doctor has to say on Thursday about why you're able to tolerate more food. Maybe you just have a cast iron stomach and are getting to skip this miserable part of your system learning to tolerate food again!

I had my surgery on the 14th. My instructions were 3wks of liquids which is protein drinks, cream soups, cream cereals, yogart, sugar free puddings, sugar free & non caffine drinks & sugar free popcicles. My tummy makes noises but I don't listen, I was told over & over the hunger is in my head! Yesterday I went for my post op exam & had lost 13 lbs! The surgeon said after one more week then I would go on pureed foods for 6 weeks. He said to be careful of amounts & what I eat because my stomach, what is left of it, is still healing. I sometimes feel I eat more then the 1/4 cup for my meals & sometimes I still do not eat as much of the protein I need so I am still adjusting to what is needed to keep me healthy. My biggest desire is wanting something that realllllly tastes satisfying!

Hi Shelley, I think my missing link was the protein! The first week of my liquid diet does not include any real protein (besides what you get in the little bit of chicken broth). Went and got some protein powder and had it in milk today. What a difference. Headache and hunger pangs are gone!
