Anyone know how to get rid of really bad gas post surgery? I had my surgery on the 25th and haven't been drinking much because of it. Any help appreciated Thanks. Stephanie

I had my surgery on 1/12 and still have the gas, although it is getting better. I had my 2-week checkup this week and was told I could take any over the counter gas reliever, such as Gas-X. I actually found some chewable Gas-X. I would confirm with your surgeon before taking anything (my surgeon asked us to check before taking ANYTHING) - your situation might be different than mine so just double check with him/her. I was 2 weeks out yesterday. The first week was the worst then this week things are improving

Walk, walk, walk!!! It does help but also a wonder drug is the baby gas drops, Mylicon (?) I think they are called, my doctor recommended them and they were great so maybe try those. Good luck!!

Is the gas in your chest like belching, or the other end kind? I just had surgery on the 25th and I am having some gas, belching which causes the middle of the chest to really hurt for a few mins. I tied the Gass-X but it not seem to help for this. Lucky for me it comes and goes, and is not constant.

Sandra, unfortunately it's both. I'm taking Maalox for the gas and it seems to be a little better. If it gets worse, I think I'll get me some Gas-x since that's what it seems like everyone is recommending. Now my drain hole and staples are itching reallly bad...can't win today...haha

Stephanie: I'm 1 week post op. I'm having problems with upper & lower gas also, I picked up some generic Gas-X, and hoping that works. I have noticed that if I drink my Protein drink or water to fast, I tend to get more gas. Good Luck.....Lynn M.

My surgery was on the 20th and I have been home for less than a week. My second day home I had awful gas pains, my mother and I concluded it was due to me inadvertently using a straw to drink from. I found that when I walk more it isn't so bad. AMY

DON'T use straws girl! LOL! Bad gas dose result! Have you tried Gas X yet? I used Gas X with Mallox and it works great and it has some calcium in it too!
